Yes, you can find them online for less than $10. Keep a few han dy. Also, I buy the 5 quart of Castrol Synthetic at WalMart for well under $30. It's cheap insurance in my opinion.

I bought mine from Minicarparts.net. Genuine OEM filters $14 each: http://www.minicarparts.net/Parts/11_42_7_622_446.cfm

Or you can save a bit by buying the set of 6 OEM filters for $80 ($13 each) http://www.minicarparts.net/Parts/M3405.cfm

You can also buy the Mann filters for $8 each: http://www.minicarparts.net/Parts/11_42_7_557012A.cfm

Costco had a sale on a box of 6 1qt 5w-30 Mobil1 Synthetic for $30. I stocked up and bought 3 boxes.

Here we have the OEM oil filters at a great price.
http://www.waymotorworks.com/oem-oil...5-r56-r57.html

I don't recommend anything but the OEM filters as many of the aftermarket filters don't fit correctly and as you found also cost more.

I do a little better than that at our MINI dealer: 5 qts (for a spare) and filter for $49 out the door, with the local club discount. Filter comes in at just under $10, if memory serves.

Others have commented that it's possible to catch screaming deals on appropriate oil, at times, just have to keep a look out for local sale flyers, rebate offers posted on bob-is-the-oil-guy site, etc.

Which dealer is that? Crevier MINI in Santa Ana, CA wanted $198!! I found a MINI specialist closer to me that only charges $79 and uses all factory parts/oil.

I perfer to do my own and I would never take it to one of the quick oil change places the people working there generally don't know which end of the car the head lights are on. The next one will be on the dealerships dollar. Then back to DIY for a while.

FYI MINI has changed the oil change intervals to more more realistic mileage. I brought Betty in for her 15k (I did my first change at 7500 as I too don't believe in 15k between changes) and then servicing changed to 9000 miles.

Made me look: My last oil/filter change came to 66.56 parts and labor plus the guy (independent) gives it a good looking over to spot any developing problems including a test drive. (I think he just like driving them) Two visits ago he spotted and corrected a small leak in a steering hose fitting. It is always good to have another set of eyes.

I was at the KIA dealer picking up a filter for daughter's Soul and the parts person mentioned, "ya know we only charge 19 dollars for an oil change, this filter costs nearly half that . . ." By the time I bought a 5 quart jug of oil at Wally World I was over $20 invested.

makes ya wonder what's so labor intensive about the MINI given they are buying the oil in bulk anyway . . . just like the KIA dealer. Yes synthetic and KIA is dino but that ain't really explaining it.

One thing I noticed: I'd read of that change to shorter intervals, IIRC with the 3/1/12 and after builds. My MCS was built on 2/27/12, with 15-thousand'sh change intervals. I'd changed mine at 1200 and then at 7500, and wondered if it would "inherit" the new intervals when I returned it to the mother ship for its first official scheduled service.

Nope.

Still counting down from 15,000, just like before...

No biggie, I'm on my own schedule anyhow.

after i got my 03/2012 build cms all4, my dad liked it so much he bought a dealer demo used 09/2011 build cms all4

his was counting down from 15,000 and mine started the countdown at 9,000

after his first dealer oil/filter change at 1 year (about 8,000 miles and the counter showing 6,000 to go) the countdown was set to 8,000 miles til the next change

my cms all4 just had it's first dealer oil/filter change as i got to zero on the countdown and mine was also set to 8,000 til next change

i had done 2 oil/filter changes on both cars myself

scott

edit: my window sticker said 10,000 mile oil/filter changes

Folks

You know you do not have to believe anything. If you really want to know what is the proper interval for you car, having a an oil analysis done will tell you when you should be changing your oil.
(interested parties please read http://www.blackstone-labs.com)

I use European formula Castrol 0W30 (now edge SPT)

It is an A3 rated oil.

You pull a sample, send it to blackstones, they analyze it and they tell you if your engine oil is holding up and when you should change it. The bonus is that you get a doctors report on your engine (is their coolant in there? too much silicon ??)

yes it cost money but it is an investment in your cars longevity. Don't guess. Don't feel or believe.

Know! And Yes you can go 15K on the above mentioned oil.

Mine is a 2012, built on 9/9/2011. It started with the 15K+ interval. I took it in for the 12-month service earlier this year, and they did some software update on it (presumably as part of the service) which reset the interval to 10K miles.
