Can I buy a used key fob online and get it reprogrammed?
Hey all! I bought my first Mini this past February after wanting one for years (yay!) and I have a question for all of you out there. I tried searching the forums and there's been similar questions asked, but none for my specific key type/year it seems. (I have a 2007 Mini Cooper S)
About two weeks ago I had my keys stolen from a restaurant. Today I contacted my closest mini dealer (the Pittsburgh, PA one) to see about getting a replacement. They said it would be about $140 for the fob/remote part, and about $40 for the physical key part that goes inside the fob. However, when I look online on say eBay, I see that you can buy the fob part for about $60 bucks. When I call the dealer to see if they're reprogram these used fobs, they say that they can't. (I checked the Pittsburgh one and the Maryland one).
I guess my questions are:
1. Has anyone gotten a dealership to reprogram a used key for them?
2. If no dealership can do it, is there a way to do it yourself ?
Thanks all!
