Well then it's a good thing she didn't also forget to give him his insulin and diabetic needle else being stranded would have been the least of his worries.

Of course I'm being facetious but what you're saying is you are not going to send your kids to school because the possibility exists you might forget to give them lunch money.

Edit: Oh, and if he "drove 35 miles" then his mother was "35 miles away" he must have been a short walk from home?

Save the $ for options that make a difference - like the S badge.

The difference is, when a cell phone breaks or becomes obsolete, it is easily and cheaply replaced. Also those features, like GPS, go with you when you park the car.

Of all the people I know I was the last to get a smartphone. I kept my Razr v3 until it died. I'm still on my first smartphone, everyone else is on their 4th or 5th. Yes I'm a bit of luddite, even though (or maybe because) I have a long career in technology and several patents. I still like my vinyl records, though I admit having a phone full of MP3s is convenient when I'm on an airplane for 12 hours straight. Kids these days (mine included) can't even comprehend there was a time when computers filled a room, video games didn't exist, and telephones were plugged into the wall.

There's different kinds of technology: Necessary technology (fire), technology that makes things work better (like turbochargers and electronic fuel injection for internal combustion engines), and then technology for the sake of technology (like comfort access, the all electric steering like on the new Infiniti Q50, or having your car read your email to you.) What's the point of all the tech for the sake of tech? If you want to be so removed from the process of driving, then either take the train/bus or wait for Google to bring their self-driving car to market. Then get in, using comfort access, of course, and tell it where to take you, and play with your smartphone until the car stops and opens the door for you.

Or get in the car, put the key in the dash, push the start button, blip the throttle, hit the sport button, push in the clutch, put the car in gear, and be involved in the driving experience. Take the twisty way for no reason other than its more fun. Comfort access changes only the 2 seconds it takes to put the key in the dash, and you still have to remember your keys. Getting the S model or putting a bigger rear sway bar on changes ALL of it. That's why I say spend the $ on options that make a difference.

There are a lot of things that are not necessary but are cool and convenient. There are probably more people that think the cost of CA is a better investment than a sway bar if they have to choose one or the other. It's all just personal preference. Personally I think the concept of a key is outdated. I don't like fumbling with them, dropping them (because I have to full them out of my pocket to drive my car) and busting the case off my key fob ($50), having to insert it to start the car and the angst of dropping them on the floorboard down by my feet (under the accelerator pedal), fishing them out of my pocket without inadvertently pulling other things out.....and risk dropping that stuff ... 2-10 times a day. Have you seen the size of a Dodge key (2010)? The "fob" part is the size of my kitchen table then there's this samari sword protrusion to poke me in the leg all day.
