For $51k you can get a VERY lightly used 2011 Boxster S......sorry, there is NOTHING the Mini Roadster can do better than the Boxster save a few MPG.....
Honestly, I would have to say over $35K for a MINI is ludicrous. For what you get, I don't understand how anyone would pay over $30K. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my MINI, but I bought it lightly used for under $20K. I'll let someone else pay the ridiculous MSRP.
Completely agree. I got my '08 MCS with only 29k on the clock, and a MINI extended warranty, for $17k ($18.5 out the door). Like Spooled said, not a knock on the MINI, but $50k for one is beyond ridiculous. I don't care if they rubbed the cow with cocoa butter every day before turning into leather. It's still a MINI. These things should top out at $30K for a fully loaded top of the line car. When you start pushing beyond that price range, there are lots of other cars that would seem like better options. At $50k, I could name a ton of cars that I would pick before the MINI.
To me, part of the appeal of the MINI was the performance bargain they represented. That bargain disappears real quick above $20-$25k.
Have you folks been out and about looking at new cars lately? A decently equipped Jeep Wrangler will set you back about $30K, a Nissan Murano Cross $40K, a Dodge Challenger $45K.
Sure, a Goodwood is a grossly overpriced model, but remember that BMW also owns Rolls Royce and it was just a cross-marketing gimmick.
check my mini build. originally did the roadster, but again, ive given up on that, the top up, looks super lame. so, heres the next best thing, a new R56 JCW!
and this could all be mine! for the low low price of $39,000!!! lol

Yep, and I wouldn't dream of paying for any of those either. I'll bet you'll find that a lot of those cars will just sit on dealer lots and/or have huge incentives attached to them a few months later. The $45k Challenger might sell, as would the Mustang/Camaro (which can go well beyond that price). Those are some serious performance cars, and they have the muscle car "mystique" from decades past. Many buyers of those cars are collectors or hard core sports car racers. Not sure the MINI appeals to the same market. The guys/gals with $50k to spend on a car probably would look Camaro/Mustang or a host of other choices first. But cars like the Wrangler or Murano have much more pedestrian roots.
Interesting you picked the Murance CrossCabrio. That thing has got to be the most pointless vehicle I've ever seen. Now wonder Nissan isn't selling any...

ive seen one of those up close in person
looks like a F***ing death Trap!
oh, and super oogalay
I disagree, BMW build Quality, you could get a tricked out JCW Hardtop for about 40k, having had Porsches, BMW and now currently drive a Maserati GT Sport on weekends, there is nothing on the market which compares. I am not talking about a Goodwood, which i think is dumb, but autox Cooper Works, loaded. Certainly, lightly used tricked out Minis at 20K more to my point.
I have to admit, I felt pretty guilty about spending $32k on a nearly stripped factory JCW in 2006. Now, it's been a fun ride, but I don't think it was worth the money.....

I spent 20.5K on mine with 18K miles and I'm very happy with it. It isn't race grade but it's still a lot of fun.
If you are spending over $30 for your MINI I feel that you are getting screwed. For that money you can way better cars.
Stay away from the Roadster and Coupe forums, you will **** off a lot of them with that attitude (and yeah, I'm a few months away from ordering a Coupe and whether I get the JCW or a moderately optioned S, it will be well over $30K.
And you still can't show me another car for that price I'd prefer to have but go ahead and try.

Agreed. The Countryman S I recently ordered came out to $31,800. I could logically cross shop it with an X1, but optioned the same way I would be looking at over $40k for the sdrive28i. We're actually getting an X1 as well (best of both worlds) and the X1 optioned to $38k but it isn't nearly as well equipped as the CMS will be.
Rolls Royce leather eh... what, they Feed the cow Mr. Royce? or did they grow up on his farm? or, maybe they fed the cow old Rolls Royce car bits... :P
Be nice to Rolls Royce...they're our cousin you know. Both owned by BMW.

New or used?
The key phrase in there is "I'd prefer to have". It all comes down to personal tastes. For some, the MINI would still be the car of choice at $35k, or even $30k. And that's completely cool, as you should drive whatever car makes you happy regardless of what others think. Everyone has a "tipping point" where they say the car just isn't worth it to them. For instance, if someone offered you a new Lotus Elise for $30k, you'd jump on it. What about $50k? $80k? $100k? Where does it just not become the right car for you for the money? For me, the MINI wouldn't be my choice too much above the $17k I spent on mine. I was happy with the value I got, which is what I was looking for.
Hmm. New Focus ST with every option you can throw at it still sits under $30k, and that's MSRP. For a 250+HP hatch. Heck, that's with the more expensive paint. Mini is, in my book, just one more cool little fast hatch. Loyalties lie where the performance is at. I'd love to test drive an ST and see if it stacks up.
