PSA: Campaign to bring back the wave!
No I'm not talking about that thing people do at the stadium when the game gets boring. I'm talking about waving your hand at other MINIs you pass by. Its a dying phenomena. In my 100 mile a day commute I must come across no less than 10 MINIs a day. I'll wave to each and maybe get one wave back (more often I get blank stares with people wondering what would possess me to do such a thing). It feels like I'm striking out more than my beloved Yankees in September.
So what gives? Why is it that fewer and fewer MINI owners are waving? Is it poor teaching from their motoring advisers? Lack of reading through the MINI field guide telling you that you must wave to other MINIs?
One thing all MINI owners have in common is that the reasoning to purchase a MINI was definitely for love of the car, not really to fit any particular need as there are always other options that do tasks like efficiently commuting, cargo hauling, or fitting into tight parking spots better. But, nothing else is a MINI, drives like a MINI or has its character. So let's bring back the wave and keep the Motoring community alive!

I feel the same way to some extent and am hopeful that it hasn't been diluted that much. I have noticed a few more waves lately though so all hope isn't lost yet.
Is there an "official" MINI wave, meaning something unique like a two-finger V or the Hawaiian Shaka (hang loose) gesture? I vaguely remember from years ago hearing from a friend who had a classic MINI that there was such a wave. I couldn't find any such description in a forum search.

I live and work in the D.C. area and majority of MINI owners only have the car because of the gas mileage and ability to park almost anywhere. They don't own the MINI for the motoring experience. I look at the driver as I pass by and can't even get a friendly smile. Most of my waving is sent to other DCMM members I see driving around.
Here in new jersey there are just too many mini's. I have an 06 s convertible. There are at 5 within a mile of home, can't even count everything else. Like it was said earlier there is no more excitement for most folks when they are everywhere.
I hear ya. I'm in Hoboken where we have more than the usual amount of minis per capita. It's tough when everyone needs a car to get around even though its a city, with no parking and few garages.
I wave, but not when I've got the top and windows up. Damned, it's summer! That's why A/C is standard. I see MINIs all the time and when I've got the top down and not doing 60 mph on a dangerous road I wave and get a response about 66% of the time.
There are plenty of reasons why the "wave" may be as popular as it once was, but surely not because of "dilution of the brand." WTH, some people think that the addition of the Clubman, Countryman, Coupe and Roadster "diluted" the brand. If you think that way, then only those driving the "undulated" models should wave.
