New 2013 order soon

Hey guys,

I am in the process of specing out my new mini s convertible and had a couple questions that I tried searching for and my eyes started to glaze over looking.

First, after I spec it out online. Do I have options for price negotiations at all with the dealer or miniusa?

Second, If that is not the case above. Do I just walk in with a check or wait until the mini is delivered and I am sastisfied with it?

Oh and does Costco cars or American Express cars buying help with a price break or does the dealer in you city have to partake in that?

Thank you all in advance

1. You'll work out the real price with the dealer. The website is just MSRP. You should be able to get the lowest price if you can pit two dealers against each other. I was able to get $1750 off MSRP on a 2012 Countryman. Some have gotten more, some have gotten less. I was pretty happy with that amount off based on my research.

2. It may depend on the dealer. I had to pay a $1000 deposit for the order. I think I've seen some people mentioning not paying a deposit. You don't actually close the deal until the car shows up. That's at least a month away for me.

3. The dealer has to participate. A lot don't.

I used Edmunds and KBB to negotiate my price. Unfortunately for me there wasn't much wiggle room according to both sites in my area. One dealership refused to negotiate price at all so the other one I went to was my only option. I ended up somewhere in the middle which was fine with me.
