Bluetooth+Iphone4+Frustration (sorry..kind of long....)

Hi all, I've searched the forums and tried to find an answer before posting but, after wading through about a thousand free screen protector posts and a bunch of other interesting but, not-the-issue-I-need-help-with posts, I'm still searching for an answer.

It all started with a test drive....and I would be TOTALLY happy, if I could just fix this annoying issue. My bluetooth works like crap. I have to either yell or sloooowly enunciate for the thing to even get what I'm trying to ask it to do and it often just says "system off" instead of dialing...it makes me swear when it does that and I'm trying to not swear so much. I tried having NW Mini move the mic to the left side. They won't...said there isn't a spot for it but...I see what looks like a spot when I look at it. They did some adjustments and it didn't really help me and made it worse for folks trying to hear me. Today they replaced the mic and .... apparently it sounds like I have left the phone on the counter and walked so far away that the listener can't tell what I'm saying. I called my work voicemail and left a message to test it out and ...I can't hear half of what I said...it's garbly.

Innnnn addition.....when the music plays from my iPhone 4, it will suddenly change in the middle of a song. It randomly decides not to change the track name on the display and will go several songs without updating to the current song. And..this happens with my Hubby's iPhone 4S and Ipod. It does not happen in his Acura TSX or our Tundra.

Does anyone have any suggestions? My phone has the most current software. I'm going to do another syncwith iTunes and see if that helps. I really like the folks at NW Mini and don't mind being forced to sit in the waiting room and read or wander around and shop for stuff and look at all the Mini's but, it's an hour drive and usually at least an hour and half once I'm there so I'd realllly like it to just be fixed.

Thanks for listening (and helping if you can). Oh..BTW...I still LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my MINI! (I do not have the navigation stuff....just the blue tooth and the HK stereo. 2012 MCS)

Unless they made a major change between '11 and '12, the mic can be moved to the driver's side pretty easily.

I haven't tried playing music off an iPhone, but had similar problems when using an older iPod. The song names wouldn't always match up either. I figured it was because of the iPod, but hearing your problems makes me wonder.

Had a problem with my Ipod Nano. It would go to the next song, play like 2 seconds of it, then go to the next song and play it fine. I reloaded all the songs because I made a couple of purchases and it has been fine after that. I haven't tried my Iphone to play music. Sometimes my bluetooth syncs, and sometimes it doesn't. I haven't figured that out yet.....A call will come in, and I miss it because I expect it to come through the stereo/bluetooth.

Do you have the nav/mini connected, or the standard radio? If standard radio there are a limited amount of commands you can use. The only one I've gotten to work is to say "Dial Name" then say the name after it prompts you. You MUST program the names into the system or it won't work at all. Good luck.

There must have been a change in 2011, at least for the Countryman. The wire for the mic is much too short to allow moving it to the left side. You would need to splice in at least 2 inches of wire.

I have the standard radio...no NAV. I have some names programmed but, it can't tell what I'm saying half the time. It will also dial a number when I say "call number"....sometimes. Most of the time, it cannot seem to hear what I'm saying and just shuts the system off. If I do happen to get a call to work, the person on the other end can't hear me and we spend half the conversation repeating what was just said. It's so frustrating.

If there was any pattern to when it works and when it doesn't, it would at least make sense. But, it might work when I'm parked and it might not. It might work when I'm driving and it might not. I might have to speak loud and slowly and I might not. I just can't figure it out.

I tried to move the mic when I first got the car. I had researched and found the instructions here. I couldn't get the mic unplugged and didn't want to break it so ended up taking it in. I will check again and see if they changed anything when they changed the mic out.

I am probably going to take it back in and demand they keep it until it works. Others are not having the same issues so, there is obviously a problem.

I appreciate the suggestions. I figured posting here would be the best bet on a solution. Thanks!!

It's probably the bluetooth module.

I fixed it!! At least it appears I did....

I was finally able to check the reinstalled microphone. It was put on the driver's side....which is kind if interesting since they told me there wasn't a spot for it. And they had placed some sort of fuzzy tape around it. The tape covered the regular very thin cover over the opening where the little microphone fits in the plastic holder that attaches to the piece that fits up to the headliner. (sorry...technical terms are not my forte...). I took the tape off of the part that covered the microphone but left it on the sides and put everything back together. Called a couple people and they could hear me loud and clear. It did make me repeat some dialing requests but that part worked better too.

The tape that they put on did not seem to be made for sound to travel through. It was too dense even though it was not very thick. Now I'll see how it works over a few days.

Next...remove all songs from iPhone and reload to see if that helps. I did some testing and found that songs that stop in the middle and the next song starts up did so at the very same spot when replayed. Makes me think that is my own issue and not the car. We'll see....

Thanks again for all the help!
