activating deactivating features

I have an 06 mini cooper. I would like to change some of the settings as described in the manual but cant find any way to do it myself. Is there a way to change the settings on this car without having a dealer help. Looks like 2007 and later can be changed by the owner I have tried to figure this out myself but am getting nowhere. Any thoughts?

The key needs to be in. I found this out the hard way with my roadster. I tried and tried several times. Once I put the key in I was able to set the things I wanted.

GEN2 you can change most of these things yourself

GEN1 - sorry you need to go to the dealer or find someone with the proper software

Ok - you have a GEN1

When I last checked a my dealer would charge 45 for a programming and it did not matter how many things you changed. It was a FLASH charge

Thanks for the help that explains it.
Probably know way for the normal guy to get the software and do it themself. I would imagine it plugs into the osbdII port?
