Cherohala HWy tips?
taking a trip to Atlanta and the Cherohala Hwy is sort of on the way
- hey I own a mini so why take the straight route. Anyway I'll pick it up in Tellico plains and was wondering if anyone had any advice about the road - speed traps - places to stop etc.
Thanks

Last week, we drove the Cherohala into Robbinsville by way of Tellico Plains, coming from the western end of TN. Very nice drive and I would recommend stopping at the various outlooks along the way.
make sure you gas up and use the facilities before entering the Cherohala. there isnt much once you get on there. We didnt see any troopers on 2 trips through. not to say they ever get on there, we just didnt see any. The curves are not as tight or abrupt as the Dragon, but the speeds can get much higher, so use caution. Do that and you should enjoy the drive and the scenery.

Thanks - that's what I was looking for. Hope the weather is decent as I'm told there are some great views.

Been on the Dragon but did not have time for Cherohala.

You've checked their website? At the Tellico end is a visitor's center that I think is worthwhile. You can make a sort of loop out of the Dragon and the Cherohala. I've done that a few times but I personally prefer the Cherohala part of the route and and most often make it out & back on the Cherohala. There are no commercial services along the Cherohala or the Dragon. There was a great deli in the downtown part of Tellico Plains (still there anyone?). If you have enough time - the drive up the Tellico River to the fish rearing pools is quite nice. That's a dead end so it is an out & back side trip.... I could go on and on, been going up there for decades and it continues to be a joy!
Have a great time!

I second the advice to visit the Tellico Plains Visitor Center.
We ended up there last week while at MOTD.
The folks at the Visitor Center sent us to The Bakery (I think that's the name) downtown where we ordered a delicious lunch to go. They recommended that we take 210 shortly after getting on the Skyway from Tellico Plains and drive 6 miles to a waterfall that is right on the road. Spectacular! Drive up waterfalls are just so convenient. Just past the waterfall is a parking area with picnic tables next to the river. We enjoyed a picnic then waded in the cold water. There was a swimming hole up there and some people were fishing too. We would never have known about this if not for the Visitor Center. They gave us a nice map of the entire Cherohala Skyway.
