motor oil?

Well this might have been asked a thousand times already but I was just wondering what brand and kind of motor oil you guys use for Mini Cooper? The reason I ask this is because for my first car I decided to buy a 2012 Mini Cooper Hardtop (Not the S version). I ordered it about 3 weeks ago and should get here in 5 weeks but back to the topic, what kind and brand of motor oil do you guys use? Synthetic? Castrol? Valvoline? Sorry I am just really curious. Anyway thanks and any feedback would be appreciated.

Owner's manual says only full synthetic 5-w-30. I haven't had my car very long and have had my oil changed once at MINI. I have a litre of castrol in case I need to top up.

I've got an '03 S, and I've always used Mobil 1 full synthetic. I used to use 5w-30, but I've switched to 0w-30. I think as long as you use a full synthetic and change it when it's due, you'll be fine.

The owner's manual has a specific list of oils that are approved by MINI to use in your car. Pick one off there, and it's hard to go wrong.

I have a new MINI and by the dipstick there is a metal tab that says "MINI recommends CASTROL" and on the air cleaner box it says "5 W 30".

I buy my oil at MINI, that way as long as it's in warranty I can't have a warranty claim deied over the "wrong" oil. Plus, it's about the same price as Mobil 1 or the others, so why not? I also buy my filter at MINI, same reason

Oil and filter together are less than $35 at my MINI dealer's parts counter.

You'll get three free annual oil changes with your new MINI and it's three year service warranty. Like MINIdave said, the MINI brand oil, at the dealer, costs the same as synthetic oil at the auto parts store.

I only drive about five thousand miles a year, so I've only had my car serviced at the dealer, but I have an extra quart of MINI brand oil in the trunk to top it off with.

Make 100% the oil you use says it meets bmw longlife spc...very few do..even full syenthic...most of the "euro" syenthic do...such as the MOBIL1 EURO, regular MOBIL1 does nor for example...
When your warrenty runs out, any good syenthic will do, espically if you do more frequent or as I say, more SANE oil change intervals....I use 7500 mile max.
