Faster acceleration in automatic after using Steptronic manual shifting!?

Hi everyone,

I've been driving a 2012 Mini Cooper S hardtop for 7 months now. When I use the manual shifting (Steptronic) for a while and then switch back to automatic, my car seems to have much faster acceleration in automatic than before.

Not sure if I am just imagining things, but I can definitely feel a difference.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Mines an 07 so it might have something to do with the year differences but, no. Mine doesn't seem to be peppier. Maybe it's just coming off the thrill of shifting. LOL I use my shifter quite abit and love it.

Thanks drsimmons. That could be it.

Or maybe it's still in the "break in" period and hasn't decided yet how fast it wants to be.

I noticed the other day that when you put the automatic into manual it also puts the car into Sport Mode. Haven't checked to see if it leaves it in Sport Mode when you go back (?). If so, that would explain it. Don't know enough about the internal computer programs going on, but it "may" make a judgement on how hard the car is being driven and go from there...

Whatever it is, you've got to love having the choice of auto/manual and sport/non-sport!

Thanks BlackIce. But I don't think it's the Sport Button. I usually turn that on when driving automatic anyway. I've tested this thing a few times now and it happens every time. Really bizarre. I might have to ask my Service Advisor at the dealership about it.

^^To answer the question on whether the DS goes back to reg. D when the shifter is moved from manual back to auto, it goes back to D mode.
