The only thing I want to know is why I have to pay $700+ for the MINI version and $450+ for the Subaru one (I also own an STi)... it's the same darn hardware. Did it really take them that much longer to figure out how to get it to work with a MINI?
Demand as well. I think the ecu was more difficult to crack plus more people with Stis and WRXs will get one vs. MINI owners. Definitely worth the money though....if even for the improved throttle response alone.

I just traded my 2007 335i sport package for an S Coupe... My wife drives a 2010 Cooper Hatch. I can say first that there is a noticeable difference in interior sound between the two and my guess is simply because of much less glass.

I would be lying to say i wasnt concerned when I traded the car in and waited for the Coupe to arrive... But I am not disappointed at all. Based on your description, we have similar driving styles and I get much more of a driving experience at slower speeds in the coupe. In the BMW, I had to be going WELL above legal speeds to enjoy the capabilities of the car. With the mini, I get the same smile at much more reasonable speeds.

I'm not sure I would have the same to say for other mini models, but that is just personal preference... I like an enclosed cockpit feel.

If there is anything I really do miss it is rear wheel drive... I am having to get used to torque steer again!

This has been my experience as well. With the 335i, you really need to be pushing triple digits on the speedo before you really start to experience what the car is capable of, while the MINI is much more fun for darting around town.

Wow, thanks for all the fantastic input and advice!! I am definitely leaning towards a JCW with regular (non-RFT) tires. I'm glad that there are others out there that went from a 335i to a MINI and have positive remarks about the change. I also agree about the interior space with the 335i vs MINI. I'm a tall dude at 6'2", there isn't much room for anybody that has legs to get in the backseat nor is there much room for the driver...it's feels compact.

This weekend I took the first step into convincing myself that I'm not crazy and that I do want a JCW. I test drove a '12 JCW hardtop...woohooooo!! I was more impressed than I thought I was going to be. What a fun little car! Unfortunately, even more than ever, it makes me want to get rid of my humdrum 335i. Anybody wanna trade a JCW for a 335i???

P.S. One feature on the JCW that thought was funny was the back-up sensors...
