Bad trip to Walmart

Tell me this has been discussed, old news, maybe there's another thread dealing with the ramifications of this product. When I go to Walmart or Target, I make a point to go to the diecast aisle and see what cool Mini's might be available in 1/64th scale, usually am not disappointed. Tonight though, here is what I saw on the shelf--

OK, at age 52, I don't care that much about what people think of my cars, I have a yellow 2000 MR2 Spyder, some think the Solar yellow is a chick car color--so what, drive the thing and you'll realize it is about handling! Anyway, the Barbie Ken Mini was not the car I was hoping to see in Walmart. To rub salt in my a bit shaken pride in owning a Mini, I was putting the Walmart groceries into my Mini as a GTO with an aftermarket muffler rumbled right past me with testosterone coming out of its exhausts. Pro or con that Ken drives a Mini?

Ken: So, who's ready for Ken's dream tour?
Lotso: Let's show our new friends where they'll be staying!
Ken: Uh, folks, if you'll just want to step right this way...
Ken: Hi, I'm Ken.
Barbie: Barbie. Have we ever met?
Ken: I would have remembered.
Ken: Love your leg wamers!
Barbie: Nice ascot!

this thread is cracking me up. that being said, I have this Mini, as I just couldn't resist. Ken, however is not the owner, various and assorted little stuffed animals have commandeered it to race around the house...and I am 58, she said unabashadly

side note: mods are being contemplated. Any thoughts?

Oh, this thread reminds me of one of the best car commercials of all time:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=VI2L82eUoJU

Too bad the car in the commercial was already out of production- but what a commercial!

Here goes- a little thread drift--

Since this picture of the engine bay, I've added a CAI, header, hiflow cat and SS dual muffler. Most mods you can't see, larger sway bars/links, breast plate underneath. The car's light weight and very responsive handling make driving this a ton of fun! Oh yeah, rear bumper's been repainted to match body color better.

Dang, it looks so long and low! I had a MKI and loved it and wish I still had it. Love the matching interior, a photo shoot with your MKIII and my MINI would be awesome.

So tell me, since you get to drive them back to back...which one is more fun? It's been a few years since I had my MR2 and I think maybe my memories might be more fond than reality but I have a hard time deciding if my MINI is more fun or not.

Dang, that is slick.

Oh, and Miniscool, you can thank me for the thread drift later. This is nicely assisting you in avoiding the question as to why you were shopping for MINI collectibles in the girls section. :D

Best comment I've read all day.

The whole chick car thing is such a beating of a dead horse to me; that I can just and move on with my life; I've got bigger and better things to worry about and I'm not shelling out an extra $100 per week compared to those getting 8mpg with their smoke stack diesels.

I think it was at the end of the aisle-really! We have more in common than yellow cars, I saw on another post that your wife has a CRV, so does mine, great vehicle, but other than reliability, there is no excitement/passion at all for me to drive it!

As far as driving experience of Mini vs. the MR2 Spyder, and which is more fun, I'll take the risk on a Mini sight to say that the Spyder is more fun to drive. Many Mini owners refer to "go kart handling", the MR2 truly is that experience. Side by side, the cars are close in size/wheelbase, but the Spyder weighs approx. 600# less than the Mini, plus mid-engine lay-out/rear wheel drive. It reacts to the slightest input from the driver or road conditions, you have to be very alert in driving it. Which car would I choose to live with? The Mini! Just has a more solid road and build feel, gearing is better for interstate cruising, storage space (Spyder has virtually none). MPG, Spyder averages 33, Mini at 25. Which would I want at the Dragon, probably the Spyder. Unfortunately, have a daughter entering driving age, she will get a car soon so I may be selling the Spyder

amanacuso-great looking Z3, always liked the design of the car, moreso than the Z4!

And why can your daughter not drive the Spyder? It's a MKIII, so it's the girls version of the MR2 anyway.

LOL, trust me, have mulled over the possibility of her driving the Spyder, but then we will be at a stop sign when I'm driving, she'll get impatient and tell me to "go", and I have to remind her that we need to wait for the car speeding past us! A whole 'nother topic, but I know her not fully developed brain will have enough to think about when driving at age 16, let alone shifting. Now if she was one of those kids who grew up in the country and had learned to shift already, beautiful, jump in the MR2!

Maybe shifting will put her more into focus and less impatient. Dunno. It would be sad to see that sweet ride go...unless of course it was going in my driveway.

Checked bank account...not happening.

I've heard people here on the forum talking about other people and their comments on the Mini being a "chicks car". But I've never experience that out here in California. And I drive a convertible.

I don't get it down here either.
If anything, those that say Mini's are
chick cars are probably just jealous they
don't have one.
