A good way to track your fuel mileage

http://www.fuelly.com/

I have been using this website for 3 fill ups and it is saying I am averaging 31.9mpg. It takes the work out having to figure out individual fill ups and it also tracks overall mileage which is awesome.

I would recommend this to everyone here.

I have only been using it on the MINI because the BMW is down for repairs. I can't wait to see what the BMW is getting.

I notice there are two ways to track mileage. One is the odometer and one based on trips. I'm not sure I understand the diff. How do you all use it?

Fuelly is great. I use road trip on my iphone then just port the data over. Haven't gotten the mini on there yet, as I've only had 1 fill up to date!

I use it by odometer reading. The other one is just how many miles your trip meter reads. Does the same thing just a different way to track it. I like to use the odometer because I can just write my mileage on the reciept and long it into the website later. Plus can help keep track of how many miles I am putting on my cars during the week/month.

fwiw, I use aCar on my 'droid based phone. They even helped me port over my data from the old iPhone app I had been using (the data map is now part of the aCar app - I was the first to do that particular port). Nice thing is that in addition to fuel, I can enter services as well.

I use an iPhone app called Gas Cubby. Keeps track of fuel, milage, maintenance, insurance info, tire size, filter specs, tire pressure numbers, all for multiple vehicles, vin, etc. One app for my mini and mc...Wrks great and can export info to computer..

It sounds like a lot but it isn't. When you get fuel you press the fuel button and put in price gallons location and mileage if you wish then each fill up it keeps track of fuel economy. The other is just the car information page you can customize. Reminders for oil change, filter change, rotation etc. You can use as much as you want or as little your choice...When I get fuel to enter the data takes 30 sec. I can watch expenses for fuel, maintenance or both..Real handy app..

Sounds like it for the on the go type. I like the enter it in the computer when I get a chance so I am not sitting at the pump for like an hour entering this info erasing that info and generally just pissing people off.

I'm able to enter almost all the info while I'm waiting for the gas to pump. All I have to do at the end is type in the number of gallons and save (about seven screen touches in probably 5 seconds or less). Easily ready to motor on long before the receipt prints out of the pump, so no p***ing people off (which very rarely do I ever have anyone waiting on me to clear the pump). I like being able to do it on the go as it is one less thing I have to remember to do later.

It is also handy to use when shopping for a new car. Lets you see real world MPG figures and not the 55mph figures used by the manufacturers.

Use both Fuelly and Gas Cubby as well the Road Trip app.
Each records the same basic info for fuel mileage.
Gas Cubby helps me track service reminders too.
Road Trip helps keep/sort expenses.
