I have ridden in 3 different Moostangs. All were different generations. 1st was a Foxbody 5.0. Super lame and uncomfortable as hell. Next was the generation after that it was the 6 cyl. Once again lame and uncomfortable. Rode in a 06 the other day. Comfortable but still lame.

I just am not a fan of Moostangs. They are over hyped and really they are okay cars nothing special because there is 700 versions of the same car and they are freaking everywhere.

None of the above were current Gen. The current gen V6 will nearly outrun the 06 GT in a straight line, and highly likely around a course...

Car and Driver has tested many recent Mustangs in their "Lightning Lap" tests over the last several years.

'11 V6- 3:12
'10 GT- 3:13
'06 GT- 3:20

Suspension (and probably tires) is the main difference, as the '06 and '10 GTs had basically the same engine (3V SOHC 4.6L V8).

Gotcha... He mentioned road courses, too, so I wasn't sure which you were referring to.

As far as straight lines go, I think the 05-10 GTs are still a little faster, but not much because the weights are similar and the 4.6s torque advantage is probably primarily at rpms lower than one would see when drag racing.

Straight line the new V6 would be about a car length behind in a race to 90 or 100 with the 3V 4.6. Put a stellar driver in it and a lousy one in the GT, and it could happen in a straight line. It would be tough, but I bet it has happened.
On a course on the other hand, I would bet on the new V6 if it had the optional GT handling pack and brakes, and hitting the top speed governor wasn't an issue. One thing about that lightning lap, the V6 was on the governor for 1/3 of the straight and still posted that time... not bad for a "secretary special"...
