MINI finally gets direct competition in the US: Abarth
General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
Of course we all won't agree on this, but I also think the commercial shows the lady as a representation of the car calling a guy toward it... to start a long relationship with it. Everyone has a "relationship" with their car, and everyone's relationship is different. In this case, I think Fiat is trying to say "come explore the potential long-term relationship you can have with this sexy/spicy car"... embodied by a faux Italian sexy woman. :-)
Wow, I didn't see anything about a relationship in that commercial. One night stand maybe...weekend fling, but she doesn't look like the long term relationship type of woman.
Hmmmm...neither does the Fiat. I'd like to flog an Abarth, but not own one.
So you're privy to Fiat's internal sales data and market research? And know that an ad isn't increasing sales that has been aired for.... has it even been aired yet?

Erm, you're kidding me, right?
I said IMO (do you know what that means?) I am offering an opinion, simple as that. Perhaps you're new to forums? I never said the ad wasn't increasing sales, I said it's a FAIL.
But if FIAT's strategy is to alienate both sexes, then yes, I am wrong, it's a Win for FIAT.

I would like to drive the new Abarth 500 but I would rather own the classic Fiat 500. Ive seen many new Fiat 500's around and they just dont do anything for me
I don't see it as comparable. I think they're cute, but not in the same market as a Mini. I see them more like Smart competitors or other econo-entry-level small cars. I see a Mini as more of a premium car...only sharing the small size category with it. I see more BMW in my Mini than anything else.
