Well,it took me a while to make that decision because Mini was dear to my heart and I fell in love in 2002 when I saw it for the first time so I bought one in 2005.
I was going to buy a Mini Coupe but for $40,000 CDN I found that it was too much since I already own an AC Cobra replica which is being painted as I'm writing this.
I figured that now it was time for me to buy a Nice but cheaper car that would get me to work without the pain of paying for premium fuel,If I want a shot of adrenaline I just have to jump in my Cobra and I'll get my fix. I understand that all cars are not perfect but Mini is not rating well at all on the AJAC (Automobile Journalists Association of Canada) chart here. On 84 (approx.) car manufacturers,Mini is close to be last for reliability and the lack capability to repair certain components instead of replacing the whole unit. My car never really broke down and cost me a fortune but before it cost me a fortune I will sell it. Maybe if I would have bought a Cooper S instead of a base with CVT,the story could be slightly different.
Anyway I test drove a Veloster 6 speed loaded and I liked it a lot,yes you read correctly Mini,Hyundai stole you a customer, so I bought one. Interest rates are much lower, they offer 5 years warranty, Exceptional value for the money. Not the power of a Cooper S but good enough to get me to work in style,It's a fun car to drive. I'm never in a rush to go to work anyway,it was good enough for me since it's a commuting car not my main week end fun car,got it ! This car as a ton of room also, the fit and finish is awesome inside. I am not sorry,I will always love the Mini but it's just the way the manufacturer of that car works that worry me,when you see people filling law suits this is not good. I just don't want to loose my resale value while i still have a good one !

I'm glad you are happy with your decision. I'm on my third MINI, forth if you count the '68 mini. I'm pretty sure the next car will also be a MINI.

Can someone tell which car makers do not have law suits filed against them and or a ton of recalls?

You're right about that, you never know what can happen. There's no perfect car. It's just that, I lost my trust for what the company can do for us. Having to replace major components instead of fixing the problem gives me the creeps. In the long term the Mini might be expensive to maintain and the stats don't lie.
It was time to move on for me that 's all and I will always like the Mini for what it was. I was also looking at a more practical car. Sorry if i disappointed a few Mini owners,it was hard .

All car dealers do this as it is cheaper in labor than fixing the parts. This is happening with more than just cars. It is an expensive car but that was pretty much known from the beginning.

You are not disappointing me, I just don't understand why a person with 24 posts felt the need to say goodbye, hence my "ok" with confusion.

Understood, no harm, no foul, no hard feelings. Good luck with your next car purchase.

Everyone has recalls and lawsuits. its the nature of the the automotive world. They break, things don't go as they planned, and things develop on the long term.

Say no more brother, I hear ya! I would not want to pay $7,000+ to replace a shoddy tranny that is no better than the one it's being replaced with.

for me, the multiple problems and the dealer inability to fix the problems is a definite turn-off on this fun car

It would have took about five minutes of research to figure out that the CVT is a timebomb and the people that sold you the car were laughing as you pulled away....Just saying...

Are you kidding dude,my car is a 2005 and the mini came out in 2002,never heard of a CVT problem during those years !
The people that sell cars sometimes don't know **** more than you and I.
Last time I went to the dealer to check the Mini Coupe, the sales rep was a girl and she was telling me that the Coupe had a twin turbo
I'm like "WHAT" I want it right now. Iknew she had no clue. She meant twin scroll turbo and that's just an example so live and learn !
