Spontaneous combustion in second gen, too?

My folks, currently living in Britain, have a second gen Mini justa. (I think I prefer my R53... But that's another topic!) In The Sunday Times' "InGear" section this weekend I read a short article about spontaneous fires originating someplace in the engine bay and quickly engulfing the whole car. BMW, naturally, has been so far unresponsive. Anyone care to comment or - I hope not! - relate their experiences? Anything similar to the spontaneous fires in the first gen cars?

ps. Sorry for no linky. It's someplace behind their pay wall...

D'oh!

Shows how much time I spend on the non-R53 boards...

Yup, still happening, I'm still waiting to hear back from BMW after they looked at my car which burst into flames October 14th 2011.

It seems to be more centered around the S. But your right about BMW.

I think if I had an '07 or an '08 I would leave it parked in the driveway until they figure this thing out. It's one thing if the MINI decides to commit suicide, but it's quite another if it takes the whole house with it! However, FerRrari's beloved Darla (above) is an '09. Pretty scary stuff.

The Non S ( I hate the term Justa) should not be affected by the same cause as the S. Our base Coopers do not have the components that seem to be causing the fires.

I takes my chances. If it burns to the ground it burns to the ground. The only thing I would be upset about is my mods and time put into it.

This is why I say Cooper and Cooper S. Justa is dumb and even saying non s doesn't sound right.
