Rolls Royce edition MINIs? WTF?

I still find this hilarious and hard to believe. Have the people in Oxford lost their minds? http://www.motoringfile.com/2009/05/...-future-minis/
I sure wouldn't spend $50,000(!!) for a MINI. I love the fact that the MINI is, *cough" "mini" but honestly, I'd feel like I didn't get my money's worth splurging THAT much on a small car. Worse, for all that money, it looks like they're only going to be in blue. I don't see them mentioning that you get a color choice either. Although it would be awesome to have a plate on the dash saying Mulliner Park Ward, unless they're going to make the engines too and give me a color choice, I don't think I'll sign up for the waiting list.

Back in the 60's almost every coach builder in England was offering custom built Mini's, some at HUGE prices. They had everything in them you could ask for - wet bars, etc.... so much stuff ( and extra weight ) some could barely move.

I am surprised that Rolls would do a limited edition but BMW does own both brands and they are in business to make money. Maybe Rolls needs some "fill-in" work to keep the workers busy???

Bigcoyote, I read about some of those Minis when I first got MINI fever and was trying to learn all I could. Had no luck in finding any images of the old coach built ones. Anyone know of a site or anything that shows some of them off?

While you may not want one at that price, as a whole the MINI brand has no bounds when it comes to whom they cater to. I know owners who make over $1M a year and just love their blessed little cars probably just as much as you do .

This car is strictly for helping these car cos. looking green to the politicos.
Chances are that some Rolls buyers will be able to buy the Rolls Mini at a much discounted price.

A number of threads/comments about this car have been mostly negative. Sad to see this reaction. Why? Afraid it devalues your car?

They are making 1,000 of them and I bet they will all be sold. I hope to happy owners. If you don't like it well, "Occupy Wall Street" or perhaps your MINI dealer, camp out, don't shower,... Come on, get a life... Thet are just cars.

Well, except I would love to have one of these Goodwoods.

I love the interior on the Rolls MINI - and I like the idea of a limited edition. It only adds value to the MINI brand. My MA told me about a guy that ordered a Clubman and LOADED it - $49,000 later for a MINI that's not a limited edition seems like a waste to me...

But I am with the OP on color choice. At least offer it in three colors.

I love it and I love the idea of it. In fact if I didn't already have a MINI I would definitely get the Goodwood edition.

Was just pointing out some news other owners might have missed. Phoxx, from your post, it sounds like you need to lay off the caffeine! PS, better go and read the forum rules: no politics on this page. Since you insist, what the heck does this have to do with Wall Street?

That was interesting. Do you have any links to websites that show pictures of those customized cars with wet bars in them?

If I had the $, I'd love to have a Rolls and matching MINI. I wouldn't be surprised if you have Rolls buyers who manage to negotiate the MINI into the price.

I'll see what I can find - I did a ton of research when I had my 63 Austin Mini , I found some amazing coach built Mini's - some of the stuff was unreal. a lot of it was off-line but I may have copies I can scan.

Let me see what can dig up here in my file....

Maybe to you, however, the owner has the vehicle exactly as they want it and are probably the happiest that they could be with the items that their car has in it. No car is really an investment (especially one that a person can or would want to enjoy on a daily basis), so I don't see why a special edition would change anything. To look at it one way, there are probably very few vehicles optioned as the Clubman mentioned above, so in its own sense it is a "special edition" short of some gimmicky name and sticker

I for one, would pay such an amount (if I had it) for a MINI if that meant that it were exactly as I wanted it.

I dont know about negotiating the price of the Mini into the Rolls, you may want to instead negotiate the price into immediately sending it to a customizing shop so they can fix that monstrous front end they hack'd onto that puppy? Anybody besides me think its hideous? Whats with the crazy round fog lights and gunslit headlights? They're not even close to looking like they match, Ive seen better ricer fibreglas body kits. Sad the Bentley is so so so way much better looking, guess VW knows whats its doing at least. Keep Chris Bangle away from West Sussex.

At Pebble Beach it was quoted as $55,000, maybe if I won the Lottery's Mega Millions I would buy it and a WC50 too.

I am still digging for that brochure I found years ago with the wet bar - in the mean time .... Google "Radford Mini" -- Radford was one of the biggest coach builders of custom Mini's in the 60's - they did make some cool Mini's back then. Check out what google pulls up .

I shudder to think what it would cost in Canada as this is what a WC50 edition of the 2010 JCW cost.
