Hello!

If this is posted in the wrong section, please move it!

Hey,

Lissette here! Made a thread in the, '1st Gear,' section of the forum! It's about time I pick up my Mini Cooper S! But I wanted to run this sale by you guys and tell me what you think!

The guy is selling a 2008 PW 6 speed, Mini Cooper S. It'll include a full Alta turbo back exhaust, Alta cold air intake, turbo heat shield, Sprint booster, Alta FMIC, new brakes, new rotors, BlueTooth, iPod dock , great system with two amps, JCW little RPM LED sweeper, some whack Konig wheels (that I'll be switching out for BBS' later on, lol), new tires, H&R springs (I'll go coils though..), the optional rugs, some JCW carbon parts and other things that I'm most likely forgetting right now. The car is in IMMACULATE condition... Drives amazing, sounds great and looks like it just came out of the dealership. Interior is definitely a 10/10 as well as the exterior..

Thing is, car has about 46-48,000 miles.. Which I know, is over the amount it should have.. But it's not TOO much..

Anyway, onto the price. I checked KBB (although I'm not a fan of the site), it said in the worst condition the car is in the 17000's!! Great is like 18 almost 19.. Guy listed the car for 18. Well, after hours of back and forth conversation, he got down to the price I needed, which is 16,000. I personally think it's an AMAZING deal, but I'd like to hear what you guys have to say about it. This will be my first Mini Cooper S, so you know way more than I do!

He owes 15,200, so we'll be settling this on Monday since no banks are open on the weekends. Just wanted to run it by you guys to see what you have to say about it.

Looking forward to your responses, guys and gals!

Regards,
Lissette.

Heck, it sounds fabulous.

At the risk of preaching to the choir - the question is why is the car being sold? Hopefully the answer is convincing, and has nothing to do with the car itself.

Also telling you what you know - get a tech you trust to go over it carefully. I would strongly suggest a compression or leak-down test.

Fingers crossed for you - keep us posted?

Cheers,

Charlie

I appreciate the quick response, Charlie. And your response is exactly what I wanted to hear!

Reason he's selling is because he's having another kid, so his wife is telling him to choose the car or the family! And you know how that ends up!

My boyfriend along with his father know a lot about cars (my boyfriend is the one who got me into it!), so they go with me every time to check 'em out.

I'll definitely keep you posted, and if I get it or should I say, WHEN I get it .. I'll be a regular here : ).

Believe me, it was NOT easy getting him down from 18 to 16... I had people calling him through out the week to low ball him and stuff till eventually he was just like, fine..

+1

Get it checked out by your mechanic to know if there is anything wrong that will surprise you! That is more important in used cars than all the features it has on it since you don't want a big fat bill after the sale!

After all that is said and one and your awesome and trustworthy mechanic would buy it himself...then it sounds like a pretty good deal. Just remember one thing, there are other MINI's to buy if something doesn't seem right, just wait!

I took my time getting my MINI and am a happy owner of an 07 MCS!

Haha, I wish I had thought of that! Looks like a great deal! Definitely get it checked out though. Repairs are costly, and a mechanic will be able to spot subtle red flags, especially if you can get it to a MINI Service shop.

Keep us updated! Hope you find the perfect MINI for you soon!

Alright guys, little update! We settled for 16,300 which I feel is still a great deal..
I will definitely be taking a mechanic, but I'm gonna look online for some basic things we should check when going to look at the car. Would you guys recommend anything?

Here are some photos of the car so you guys can get an idea. Looks brand new, let's hope in person it's the same way and drives that way.

We have an appointment for Friday to do the exchange and everything, but I kind of have a feeling he's gonna continue promoting his car and try to sell it before Friday even though we made a deal.. But whatever, if it was meant to be, then it'll be there for me on Friday. Keep your fingers crossed guys, and if all goes as planned, you'll see some higher res photos of the car!

I gather you haven't seen the car, nor driven it? Please, please try to control your enthusiasm. I hope it's all you expect, and not "a pig in a poke". I think we all agree that the car looks great, but remember, beauty is only skin deep.

I have not, the guy works Tuesday-Saturday, so it's difficult setting up a time with him.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but it really is a challenge! But if it comes down to it, and the car is not worth what I'm paying, then I will not hesitate to walk away.. I'll definitely be coming with knowledge of the car as well as my boyfriend, his father and a mechanic whom all know a lot about cars.

Thank you for the kind words though!

Wow, it does look gorgeous! I really like the checkered dash. Nothing wrong with getting excited about it - It is a MINI after all! ^^ Sounds like you'll have a good team to give it the once over too. Good luck!
