Power Steering Pump

Does anyone know as to where I can purchase a rebuilt power steering pump at a reasonable price, the dealership seems to want my kidney along with money.

Go to an auto parts store that sell parts for Imports. I believe they quoted me around $300 before Mini agreed to cover the repair at the dealer.

Sometimes you really do get what you pay for... Personally, I wouldn't trust a cheap $300 power steering pump from a local parts store in my MINI. To each his/her own I suppose.

I would generally agree with your statement, but the one Mini sells are remanufactured. And if you read the postings I the sticky thread that talks about this common issue, some have replaced it two and three times. In this case I don't think the ones you buy at the dealer are superior. In fact the person at the parts store located it using the OEM part number and it was a remanufactured pump. I'm guessing it's the same one.

This is a known problem with certain year Minis.

Got a letter from MINI today stating they will increase warranty on the power steering pump and fan to 13 years or 150,000 miles. FINALLY, taking some responsibility. they will also reimburse for repair if you have already made this repair. Call MINI USA at 866 275 6464

Ditto.

Though, my local MINI dealer says that the fan is only covered if the pump is also replaced. The dealer told me to call MINI USA, and MINI USA says either is covered. Not sure why I need to now be in the middle of this.

BTW, the extended warranty covers 2002 to 2005 MINI's. If you already have had the repairs done, MINI will reimburse you for parts&labor if the work was done by a MINI dealer. Parts only if done elsewhere.

Go Online. I replaced this in both my previous 2002 Cooper S and current 2005 Convertible, Auto Parts Warehouse had the best price. Then I had Grismere Auto do the replacement. About 1/2 price total than the Mini dealer and both have worked perfect.

Real good news is Auto Parts Warehouse has a great computer system and was able to track down my invoice for the 2002 part replacement from 5 years ago of which I hope can get reimbursed also in this Mini Recall Notification. I had all the documents for the 2005 but did not keep any of the paperwork for the 2002 S.

I am sending my stuff to the P.O. box and hopefully get the labor covered also versus going through the Mini dealer. Address give was:

There is an announcement about this on the Ask Mini number I believe. I have to listen to it every time I call to check on my order.

I just picked mine up from the dealer had the pump and the fan done under warranty its an 04, they said the pump fan and harness are a kit and should be done at one time, the harness is the wait and said if mine was bad it would be covered. Dont know why so many dealers are giving people the run around but the guy at my dealership said its all one kit and done at once.
