Hey MINI USA, I'd like to trade my new FIAT 500 Sport for a MINI...
I've heard from a buddy of mine who works for FIAT. he says that they can't get the cars fast enough to meet demand..That seems contrary to the article posted earlier.. Perhaps it's just his area. I would think they'd sell better in some areas than others.. . Apparently.. the commercial is a huge sucess (in some areas) in spite of the the views of some here... Go figure... Regional fans? Who knows.
I'm trying to talk my wife into buying one.. She wasn't really interested until she saw the JLo commercial...

I just received a letter in the mail from my local Fiat "Studio" that they need used cars on their lot and are willing to purchase my Mini at %125 of the Kelly Blue Book Value.
Fat chance of that happening.
...and for the record J-Lo does not have a fat ***. It's called a BOOTY and that thang is nice!

For 125% I'd even agree to drive a Fiat 500 and JLo could dance on my hood every night!
Rumor is the the cast of Jersey Shore are part of the next ad campaign with Snookie as its representative for the launch of the Abarth in North America. It's an Italian thing. Just kidding, but just as bad as Jenny From The Block.

Oh heck no. NO comparison between JLo, who is beautiful, and Snookie, who is absolutely not!

And I don't doubt that there are J-Lo fans out there who might be swayed by her endorsement—but I still stand by the idea that the commercial is a major blunder on many levels and simply doesn't help the brand overall (and actually hurts it.)
So I think the car is selling in spite of J-Lo.
This is funny on so many levels (not the least of which is the car broke down!):

I think the car itself is cute and appealing and it has a history.

I was replying to someone who said that they were selling. The commercials, all of them, are not helping the car, but I am not sure they are fully to blame.
I think FIAT has an uphill battle given that in the U.S. the FIAT was always known as "Fix It Again Tony".
And the car, while cute IMO, isn't so appealing that it can overcome poor commercials and a bad reputation.
Whereas the MINI is so superior in design and appearance that—despite having a very sketchy reputation in terms of reliability—continues to sell very well.
Put your hands up, guys, if you'd buy a car that is labeled "cute."
Hmmm, I don't see so many.
Given that FIAT has a bad reputation in the US, and given that it's not really a cheap car, they're going to bring in males if they're going to make it. I just don't see that happening with their current strategy, and I still see the girlie ads running.

Another thread where owners of small, problematic European cars bash other small problematic European cars. People are funny. Anyway:
There was a great teaser commercial when Fiat started introducing the return of the 500 that featured old 500 footage in the beginning but I can't find it! Couldn't be more than 3 years old...
How clever it would be for Fiat to show that old commercial ( or part of it ) with that same soundtrack. Then, at some point, have an old "Cinquecento" morph into the new one-
Perhaps I should explain my comment--would you buy a MINI if its chief attribute was "cute"? You know, a typical "chick car?"
I still say unless they reach out to BOTH men and women, FIAT is doomed in the US.

That is MINI's chief attribute to some.
The OP must be really pissed now. Gucci just released a Fiat 500 model.

They are clearly marketing to the hip female market in the USA.
I have seen the original 500 in Italy and like it a lot more than the new version. That being said, I don't find it that bad.
As for J-Lo, it is all in a persons taste.

Comparing the Mini to the Fiat?
When I looked up the specifications the only similarity is that at a distance, NOT wearing my glasses, and after a couple of shots of straight whiskey, some parts of them kinda sorta maybe look like a mini.

I don't watch TV, so I feel like I'm missing out.
FIAT's branding seems terribly confused. The hot chick commercial appeals to men only in that it stars a hot chick, but it's not going to make them want to own the car...
And the J-Lo commercial is such a FAIL on so many levels it can only hurt the brand. I am sure there are some 13 year girls who are impressed with J-Lo, but they aren't buying cars right now.
