How about a real BMW 4 cylinder turbo motor under the bonnet that doesn't have so many gawd damn issues. The pile of junk in the R55 S is a disgrace. An absolute lump of sh*t.

They are talking about using a new BMW three cylinder engine, will that do?

I too, like the barn doors and wouldn’t want to see them go away.

Dual climate controls.

Memory seat.

Give me a second club door, even if it means that you need to make the car a bit longer. Change the placement of the handle for the club door. Anyone who is ever trying to get into the backseat always struggles to find the handle to open the door. It should be on the door jam area, just like it is on my Honda Element.

Don't lose the club doors, it so adds to the charm

I like the barn doors as well. It's small and cool lookn'. For some reason, I still get a kick out of looking at those two small rear wipers....it's like baby size...hahahaha.

I kinda like the single door on the driver's side. But I would like the door to be a bit shorter. I don't like it when the door is too long, makes it difficult to open if you're in a tight spot.

I wish they do away with the wire mesh for the sunroofs.

I think they should find a better spot for the air vent for the driver's side. So in the drivers side, there are two air vents. The right one is poorly positioned. The air is blocked by the steering wheel or my right hand. I just use the passenger's left vent, if I don't have a passenger.

No worries there. Let us yanks run the crap out of the three cylinders until MINI switches back. Apparently the EPA says that MINI is back to being an economical vehicle again so therefore it has to get "40 mpg" highway. If only they would lift the stupid standards that restrict emissions in the US, we could all get 50+ from any MINI on the lot and not this mid-20's restricted engine stuff. Sorry about the tangent, but yes they are switching in 2013 I thought is what I heard. So get your 2012's while they're hot!

What meant is that on my F350 the seat goes up and down but it also has afeature where it will tilt the rear of the bottom seat down and tilt the front up so your legs get support from the seat. You can also tilt the front of the seat bottom down and which raise the back of the seat bottom up

What 4 cylinder BMW motor would you want? NOTHING BMW makes with a turbo and runs on gas is issue free. Hell, they can't even figure out how to make ANY turbo motor, regardless of number of cylinders, without HPFP issues. Even freakin' VW figured that out.

I'd actually prefer a TRUE Peugeot motor. FAR more reliable turbo motors than anything BMW can whip up.

I've never seen that on a manual seat but every power seat I've seen does this. So I guess he short answer would be to add power seats.

I've got an '89 Firebird Formula that has manually-adjustable seat pan tilt. But in that case, you're only pivoting the seat about the rear of the seat pan, so the front either raises or lowers (to essentially level).

Well, as long as I've chimed in about that, I'll agree with a few things people have already mentioned:
  • Fix (I mean really fix, not just band-aid) all the recurring engine problems/weak mechanical areas (timing chain tensioner, water pump, HPFP, etc., etc., etc.)
  • Gauges!
  • Seat pan tilt adjustment, either manual or electric
  • Gauges!
  • Keep the barn doors
  • Gauges!
  • Better door stops (so it doesn't swing back on you when you're getting in/out)
  • A real gauge package (boost, if turbocharged; oil pressure; coolant temperature; battery volts) from the factory! Geez, BMW/MINI; who needs an 'openmeter' when your engine is loosing coolant (because the water pump puked on itself or one of the radiator hoses snagged on the curb and sprung a leak) or is pi$$ing oil all over the ground (because the tensioner backed out)...?! Even my '97 GMC Jimmy came standard with an appropriate gauge package...!

Heck... if only they would stop adding the 10% alcohol we could get more mileage, and decrease the cost of each gallon! Alcohol in the fuel doesn't do much for pollution but it sure increases the cost of food! The only real reason it's there is because some politician in the corn belt wanted to get reelected.

-Dual fulcrum hinge on the club door. (see SC400)
-Reduce the profile of the bar between the barn doors, the blind spot due to all the plastic is painful and completely unnecessary.
-better hifi, the speakers are pitiful.
-Oil pressure/temp, water, boost gauges.
-Side window defrosters

Rear side windows that open, like on a minivan, for better airflow.
An opaque sun shade.
Auto open and auto-close sunroof.
Club door on driver's side.
Pushing and holding the remote opens the LH rear door after the RH door is open.
A button to open the rear doors on the inside of the car (like popping the trunk).
WIndows that don't squeak.
Smaller frame between windows on the rear doors.

Ditto! I also want a 'barn door' release on the interior!

I love the photosunroof idea, that is my biggest pet peeve in the daytime.
Oil press, temp and ECT guages, that I dont have to install myself.
Vent the hood and put a decent FMIC on the nose.
Next, headlights that work w/o blowing the wad on the HIDs. Seriously.
Fix the cupholders.
Add another 50HP .......... or so (LOL)
Perhaps a little more differentiation between a Justa and an S in body kitting, come on you dropped the extra cash, lets flash some bling .............

I understand wanting more and more in every iteration, but we need to be realistic. BMW doesn't even put some of the things people have suggested in ///M cars. Stuff like the door stops I see happening. Oil pressure and temp and EGT, not a snowball's chance.

I'm wondering how useful an internal release for the barn doors would really be. You'd have to open the doors manually anyway, right? Maybe if they fully opened automatically like the hatch on my A4 Avant, but if the door is manual I don't see the point. Or am I missing something?

1. Better Quality Control.
2. Better overall reliability.

Even though there are many other little things I'd change, they're all secondary to those two.

ADD MIST CONTROL TO THE WIPERS. I cant believe they took the time to make the wipers auto switch to intermediate when you stop, but you can't have an intermediate setting while driving. High & low only. I end up operating them manually when it's only sprinkling.

Actually, the systems already has this feature -- but engaging it is not very intuitive. There's a button at the end of the wiper control stalk that you have to press. Consult the section of your Owner's Manual entitled "WIPER SYSTEM, Activating intermittent wipe or rain sensor" (p. 43 in my 2009 Manual).

Thanks timfits! I made the mistake of searching for this answer on line instead of just using my manual. They lead me to believe that intermittent wipers only work if you have a rain sensor.

Maybe the feature I would want to add to the new models would be to make ALL CONTROLS INTUITIVE. I have had to research way to many things that were simple to use on any other car I've ever owned.

MAKE ALL CONTROLS INTUITIVE. I have had to research way to many things that were simple to use on any other car I've ever owned. While on a recent road trip, I had my passenger break out the manual 3 times to explain symbols, to find out how to auto program the radio, and how to reset warnings, (all of which were frivolous).

If you have to consult a manual for basic functions such as the turn signals, the wipers or the radio, the basic design is not intuitive. Who designed these controls? A puzzle designer?
