Funny story...

It is funny how some people just love the look of the MINI. Hard for me to put my finger on it - perhaps it's the retro look, or the cuteness of it? Either way, both my wife and I also loved the look of the MINI for some time and after researching, could have no other car.

We get occasional stares from other drivers (there still aren't a lot of MINIs in Vermont), but I wanted to share what happened yesterday...

My wife and two children were in our MINI Cooper in the parking lot of a small market and coming towards us was a father and young son (age 4 or 5), both staring at our new car.

In fact, the father was so transfixed that he didn't notice that his child was walking directly front of our moving MINI.

I was forced to come to a complete stop. The boy then walks up to the side of our car and says in a loud voice: "Wow, what a cool car!"

I know what gets me. It's the forward slant of the body - makes it look like an aggressive go cart. If the car didn't have this slight slant - It wouldn't look any different than any other hatchback.

Of course there are other visuals but hey

haha i love looking at it too! I was recently in a McDonald's parking lot, and a grandmother and her two grandkids were eying me sitting in the cooper-finally the grandmother exclaimed "very cute!". A day later, I was pulling out of my friends driveway, and the neighbor shouted over to me how much she loved my car.

About two Fridays ago when I stopped for gas on the way home from work, a man on the other side of the pump said, "Young lady, that is one cool-looking car!!"

I replied, "Thanks!! And thanks for calling me young!!"

hahaha... made my day, what with all the ***-hattery I usually encounter on the roads from thoughtless drivers...

I will never forget that nice man!!

That's a good observation. Also, the very short bonnet as well does it for me as well.

It is interesting how that is a common reaction. I cannot think of another car that draws this type of positive attention - not even the VW bug, which is a cute car in its own right...

I often get looks and comments about my car. More so it seems than other premium sedans/SUVs, etc. It's a polarizing type of design that most people seem to find appealing and a few hate with many wishing they could live with a smaller car.

Yeah, That is the deal. Everyone of all ages and walks of life love to look at our Mini's, just as I do. Very few people actually dislike them.

"walk0080" described it perfectly with one word: "POLARIZING"

It is amazing what great gas mileage we're getting. Right now we're averaging 39.9 MPG!

Yeah, I get asked about gas mileage a lot as well. People actually assume that is the only reason I bought the car.

I drive a 2006 r53 and only get about 23 mpg's. When I tell them this, I get the most puzzling looks on this earth.

I then tell them that I chose a Mini for it's "Ample Storage"!!!! This always makes me smile!!!

Shortly after we got ours, I was driving down a 4-lane boulevard and there was a group of teenagers walking on the other side of the street. One of them yelled at the top of her lungs "I love your car!". Made me smile.

I think I read somewhere that there was a study done where they showed pictures of cars to people while looking at their brains with MRI technology and they found that when people looked at Mini Coopers there was activity in the region of the brain that normally responds to faces. That totally makes sense to me because every time I see the car head on I feel like he is looking at me and smiling For me it is the round headlights that makes the car so cute, they look just like eyes! I think this is what makes Minis so loved and why so many Mini owners name their cars.
