'09 engine light came on - Is this a serious problem?
I have a '09 clubman S. This afternoon the "engine solid outline icon" came on. Is this a serious problem? I live 250 miles from a dealer so I just can't take it in for a quick look over. I hope it's capable of getting to the dealer without harm.
Note: If I leave my mini idle for several days it sputters a bit when I start it, but other than that, it seems to be running okay.

Drive it by an Autozone parts place and they will put an OBDII code reader on it. Then Google the code or codes they get. That'll give you an idea of what's wrong.
You should still take it to the dealer, unless you have a MINI mechanic near you.

At the least, I'd take it to a local shop or a "Pep Boys" type of place and have them read out the engine diagnostic code for you. That should give you an idea as to whether it's safe to drive it back to the dealer.

Most of the readers seem the same, function-wise. If you want to kill two birds with one stone, you could get a ScanGauge II tool. That would allow you to read/clear codes, and would also give you programmable gauges for things like coolant temperature, battery voltage, fuel economy, and many more features.

My DTC codes: P0301, P0302, and P0303.
I understand these are random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another.
As I stated earlier, once the mini warms up it seems to run just fine. It's only a problem if I don't drive it for a few days. So... will this problem prevent me from driving it to the dealer for repair?
