Thinking of replacing my Mini next year !!!

I'm curious to see what you guys would replace your old Mini with.
Would you buy another one more recent based on your experience or buy something else and what.
With the premium fuel here in Ontario,Canada going up the roof,it's getting frustrating to pay $70.00 cdn for 48 L and I put 89 octane to save a bit. It went down a bit but it still $1.36 for a liter.
I can efford it but it kills me everytime. Now I'm thinking buying a cheaper car to save on fuel. Would I be making a mistake not to but another Mini.
I really like the Coupe and/or Roadster models that are coming out soon and debating what to do,I guess it's up to me to decide but it's always interesting to know what people think about situations like this,it's just to chat too, cheers !

well, what are your thoughts...getting a prius Mini's them selves are extremely fuel efficient. I drive my mini like i should and i get 29 consistently. If you are extremely careful, watch your driving you could easily get up to 40mpg. There are quite a few on here that can get higher but imho why did you get a "fun" car if your not going to have fun with it.

BTW: im sure im going to get flamed for this BUT the price of fuel is all relevent and in the end your not paying **that much more** just cut out your starbucks or pricey beer and go with the cheaper just as good stuff:

IMHO you would be making a mistake, unless of course your not that attached to your car and your just trying to get to and from point A to B. the roadsters are cool but i doubt you would get much more fuel savings with them. What year is your mini? you can also look at it this way you may have a few more years of payments, but when its paid off its yours and it wont be as painful to fill up.

just my 2 cents

Most people on this board are going to tell you to keep your Mini. This is a Mini enthusiast's board after all . That being said, the new Fiat 500 actually looks pretty fun. I can't imagine it being a gas guzzler either. That being said, it is Italian and they used to be notoriously unreliable. Before Fiat's return to the US market, I believe the saying went Fix It Again Tony. I hear the Hyundai Genesis is supposed to be fun to drive too, but I have no idea how well it does in terms of gas mileage. I suppose in my case, if I had to get rid of my Mini these are the two cars I'd look at first. Now to wash the taste of betrayal from my mouth before my Mini notices it's there .

I got a mini because of the convertible. If I had to get a hardtop I'd look at something like the Hyundai Veloster. They're a new model and should be released in the next couple of months. I actually almost waited and got one but decided that I just had to have a convertible Mini so that's what I went with.

That said, after having driven this Mini for a few weeks, I'd consider a Mini Hardtop if I had to get a hardtop.

Guys, don't beat me up yet,I love my 2005 Mini but I just made the mistake not to buy a Cooper "S" back then because my hips were bothering me with the shifting at the time so I bought the Cooper with CVT,not so peppy unless using steptronic. With the AC "on" it's a cow. Years went by and now it's different,my health got better and my hips are not so bad so I guess I shouldn't let the gas price get in the way of driving a fun car like the Mini. I'm waiting for the Coupe or Roadster, they won't be cheaper on gas for sure but maybe I lost my Mini MOJO with my gutless automatic, won't make that mistake twice. Thanks for the comments, good or arsh I can take it,maybe I need a wake up call. I've never felt this good the day I bought the Mini and I don't want that to die !!

Buy yourself a low mileage '06 MCS 6 speed and enjoy the whine of the supercharger, a fairly bullet proof engine, smile inducing acceleration and good gas mileage (30-36 mpg).

....Les

I felt the same about my Land Rover. It consumes much gas. But then I hop into the Mini, and can drive it for almost a month before a refill. Yeah, I have a short commute to work.

Really debating if I'm going to buy another Mini. I want to see the Coupe and Roadster before, the problem is that my timing will be just at the same time they might be released, first year model usually carry some bugs but maybe not so much for those two, unless the cars are 100% new. So many to choose from but not so many like the Mini, the Fiat 500 doesn't cut it for me.

Really, all you would have to do is order a tall instead of a venti every two weeks to have that extra $2.60/tank you need to make up for putting in supreme over regular unleaded.

Well I like the Mini, but so far I've never bought the same vehicle twice, so I think I'd like to pick up a 2nd hand Bugatti Veyron......

.......and when I wake up from that dream , I'll probably look at a BMW Z4 (well at least I'm staying in the family). The nice thing about the Z4, is that sales have been good, so there are a ton of them on the road and that makes it easy to pick one up a year or two old with low mileage for a good price.

My 6 YO doesn't understand why I didn't get a bugatti veyron instead of the mini. After all, the bugatti is the fastest car in the world!

Heh. I've had a similar conversation with my son, who's seven. I explained to him about the second key of the Veyron, and now my daughter who is 4 asks if I have the second key in if I drive really fast in the MINI.

I get frustrated in my justacooper driving the speed limit. I can't imagine having a car like that. Like Sammy Hagar said, "can't get it out of second gear"

I am also going to buy a new mini in 2012. I was considering the mini convertible but want to see the roadster first.

Are you actually keeping a "record" of the mileage and what you are spending, or is this just coming off the top of your head? Try using www.fuelly.com for comparisons on what other MINI Owners in your area are getting in the way of mileage and what $$ they are having to fork out. Also if you have an Android Phone, don't know what's available in CA, but an App called Fuel Buddy is a tremendous help. You are able to record gas prices you've seen and other will do the same. All in all it might help save a bit of $$, maybe.

Oh, and what would I get if I couldn't drive Molly...Uuuuhhh a Nice Pair of TennyRunners!!
