Ok...I'm looking for some suggestions.....I currently drive 8 miles to work each day and my wife drives less....she always takes the MINI Clubman and I drive my Dodge Challenger.....it's an 09 with 7,000 miles on the clock....now there's a chance that I may be asked to go to a different location which will mean a 100 mile commute ONE way 5 days a week...if that happens I won't drive my Challenger since I don't want to rack up the miles.....me driving the Clubman is out since my wife won't drive the Challenger....so.... I'm certainly not going to trade the Challenger which means I'm going to be in the market for another car...I know it should be a MINI but with those extra miles and the cost of premium, and the MSRP of a new MINI it probably will not be....so here's the question..... of other cars available.. which "low" cost car with good gas mileage do you all have experience with? I'm thinking Fiat 500, Ford Fiesta, Nissan Cube, Kia Soul...get my drift? Appreciate any comments that might help me make a decision.

If you're just looking for something to beat on for a commute, the Honda Insight hybrid can be had for under 20k. Its not fancy at all, but it'll get 45-50+ mpg easy. Also, I'd recommend the VW Golf TDI that will turn in similar mileage to the Honda on diesel for low 20's.

We've been looking at cars for months (my girl is the most indecisive person on the planet when it comes to buying a car), and the sad fact is that most cars just don't get very good mileage. So I guess it depends on how much mileage vs "cool" matters to you.

For Pete's sake don't get the Cube!!!

Kia Soul is the best car for the money in their class

Ford Fiesta is my personal favorite. I test drove a manual one. It's good looking, sturdy, well built and handles well. Economical too! I just wish you could option it with xenons.

Fiat 500 is a great little thing, but there's only one dealer in the country right now or something like that.

MINI11 is right though... Try to get a diesel! If you can fetch a compact diesel then you're there! You should be within 50-60MPG ballpark.
