Gasoline/Ethanol/Octane...

Any issues with using gas with ethanol? What percentage of ethanol is safe?
There is only one gas station that carries straight (non-ethanol) gas in my area (South-East Pennsylvania). Is mid-grade octane (90-91) depending on station acceptable? I filled up the mini twice once with premium that was 93 octane and once with mid-grade at 90. Getting 30 mpg just motoring around and commuting to work with minimal highway. Suggestions or thoughts appreciated.

Up to 10% is fine, although mileage is a little less than non-ethanol gas. If yours is super/turbo charged, I would definitely use 93 if available.

BMW says anything higher than 10% ethanol will destroy your car.

91AKI is the minimum rated Gasoline that BMW recommends.

I run pure gas 93AKI. and it works great.

Ethanol-free at 90 Octane

Filled up today at the only ethanol-free station in town (Vero Beach, FL). They said it was 90 octane, but it seems OK in the S so far. Heading over to Sebring to watch the 12 hour racer guys tomorrow. We'll see what the mileage is.

To continue...mileage on the back roads over to Sebring was 35+. What I have noticed was a steadier idle. With ethanol gas the idle seemed to vary, but maybe by only 100 rpm or so.

I'll continue to use it.

BTW the car we're talking about is the '07 R56 S

My S runs better with 91 octane than 93 octane.

Look around lakes....boaters use non ethonol gas.....since it is offroad, it is not affected by rules requing the blending of 10% ethonol....
I think you will find that the $$ diff vs performance is iffy unless the station is very convient, and priced right.
