Blizzard of '11, Houston Style
I know, I know. You're tired of hearing about yet another snowstorm. So are we, here in the Houston area. They went on 24-hour weather only coverage, just like they do for hurricanes taking a bead on the area. So, here's what we woke up to, about 50 miles north of the city. Scroll down...

I had to head a few miles north for a must-do errand around 1:00 PM, and couldn't believe how many stores were closed! Wimps!

What part of Chicago do you live in? I grew up in Evergreen Park (back in the 50's) before moving to Hammond, IN, where my father taught at Purdue. My husband grew up in Joliet. His sister and her family live in Dwight now, and they're snowed in.
No sub zero temps, but the ice caused several hundred wrecks in Houston yesterday and several fatalities... For driving, I'd think the ice worse than actual snow.

I'm in Spring... Don't know if we had anything in the immediate area - after being involved in a 25 car pile up on I-45 back in January 2007 when it was icy (driving carefully, hit ice, kept control of car, pulled off onto shoulder, called to report ice, got hit by 24 other cars who weren't driving carefully over overpass) I tend to stay home when there's icy conditions..
