Dead Alternator=Check engine light?
Dead Alternator=Check engine light?
Hey guys, Yesterday after driving around for a little bit my check engine light came on in my 02 MC. Well today i take it to Auto Zone to get scanned and the guy couldnt find what the code ment for a MINI but all the other makes it said something to do with the O2. I leave Auto Zone and make it a mile or so down the road and my Battery light came on. and turns out my alternator has decided to call it quits. Would a bad alternator cause the check engine light to come on before the battery light? On the way to taking it to drop it off my tire pressure symbol came on as did the "!" in the triangle symbol, would these somehow all be connected?
also when i shut down my car it sounds a little like a jet engine winding down? Is that normal?
Thanks!
Korey

Do you know what the code numbers were? Myself and many others have the service manual and can look up the codes.
Replacing the alternator in the Cooper is a little more involved than the S. You need to remove the intake manifold, which involves disconnecting the fuel rail.
