Premium being $0.20 more than regular. With our 13.2 gallon tank we're looking at $68.64 if the price is $5.20

Time for us to start research and development on electric conversion kits for our minis.

Oh, don't worry. We'll just drill for our own oil in the gulf...oh wait.

This is one of the reasons why I traded my R53 for a R56. The last time I heard this kind of story back in 2008 the "experts" were predicting oil would be $300 a barrel by 2011. Funny thing was oil was hovering around $35 a barrel and $2 gallon gas at the end of 2008. These so called market “experts” no far less than they would like for you to believe. They are only guessing about the future and nothing more.

They said $5/gallon gasoline was months away two years ago...it never happened. I am not falling for this tactic. There is no way that gas will be that expensive unless individaul states or federal gov tax it to holy hell.

As in Hawaii we pay (due to taxes) upwards of anything you might be paying-
http://www.hawaiigasprices.com/

$3.50 for reg unleaded in Honolulu and $4 per gallon on Maui now.

So yes, $5 not far off at all and it's happened before.

Maybe it will keep the trucks and SUVs off the road to ease congestion.

In 2008 I would have to swipe the debit card twice to fill up my F-150 if I let it get low because the authorization's max was $75.00 and I had the towing package with the XL fuel tank. That's when we bought our first MINI...and a month later became a 2-MINI family.

Canadians already pay that much for a tank of gas, and have been for years. Get used to it.

I hear ya, I had an '04 FX4 on 35s and it loved fuel. The MINI dealership gladly took it in on trade for my MCSa.

Well sounds like it is time to take the bus or maybe bike to work. I think I am going to move closer maybe back into the barracks to save money.

Sounds like a reason to upgrade to an R56 or a Coupe.

Mmmm. Coupe, R56 engine and lighter than the R53. Awesome.

Apparently the expert is assuming that Americans will continue to consume about 20 billion barrels of oil per day, even as gas prices shoot upward and gas sipping technology advances.

Use to buy Sunoco 260 for .19
Went through the gas shortage in 73, 79 and 81
Will probally go through a couple more
Have heard "experts" predicting oil shortages for 40 years
We're still driving fossil based fueled cars
For the thrill of driving my Mini I would pay $5.00 a gallon

I was just talking to my brother in Australia. They are paying $1.60/ Liter. That works out to about $5.20/ gallon. In one year it went up by 40c a liter ($1.60/GALLON). Damn!

With China, India and other countries using up oil at a higher rate all of the time, we will have to compete more and more on the world stage for it and other resources. The world is getting more unstable as these other powers rise and the US continues its fall from global dominance. I don't have to tell you, with all of this seeming instability, $5.00 per gallon will probably be on the low side.

Vancouver Dude - We have a 2008 GMC 2500HD 4x4 crew cab diesel (which gets 20mpg when not towing) and a 2010 MINI - each serves a purpose. You can't load a MINI with a ton of gear and hook a several ton trailer behind it. Nor load a MINI with 4 to 6 people, a ton of gear and go over Snoqualmie Pass in a blizzard to Pullman and back without chaining up.

Believe me, whenever the MINI will do the job, the truck sits. Racked up twice the miles on the MINI in the first 6 months as compared to the miles saw by PT Cruiser it replaced. Including trips to Pullman and back.
