Christmas Eve Oil Change
Christmas Eve Oil Change
Friday was a sunny day with temps in the 40's, with snow predicted for Christmas day. My 2010 MC had reached 5000 miles so it was time for the first oil change. This is not a "How To .." since we don't need another.
My observations: Having spent a lifetime changing oil for myself (61 years of oil changes) this was probably one of the easiest that I've done. This is to encourage anyone who has the slightest interest in a DYI project to give it a try. Anyone who has learned to drive a car, and is not physically challenged, should be more than capable.
An OEM filter and 0-40 Mobil 1 were my choices. The drain plug was easy to reach and the filter change easier than I expected. Having read that oil spillage was a concern, I followed the recommendation to loosen the filter housing before opening to allow oil to drain from the housing. I placed some paper towels under it and found when finished that not one drop had spilled!
When the car was delivered I noticed the oil level, on the difficult to read dipstick, was between the blobs indicating it was approx 1/2 qt low. I saw no need to add oil, and while checking the level through the 5K miles, I saw no indication of it dropping. This might prompt some to claim, "My car doesn't burn any oil". It's my understanding that if there's oil in the engine it will burn some. So I will say, "Mine burns so little I couldn't measure it".
Christmas is here and it's snowing. The weather man must be so happy to get it right occasionally!
And a Merry Christmas to all.
