I really messed up by buying a MINI.....
I tried to leave MINI by getting a BMW 1 series. Although it seems like it'd be fun to drive based on the specs, it just wan't the same. Last night, I officially became a member of the MINI family again when I picked up my new 2011 MCS.
+ 1
I love this car! I can honestly say that this is the most fun car that I have ever had the pleasure to own/drive. And when I was a mechanic I got to drive some fun stuff (PA State inspection mechanic). 72 Mustang Mach I, 63 Corvette droptop, a few BMW's, Mercedes, and even a Porsche! But my 10 R56 takes the cake, by a long shot! I won't even think about driving the wife's Jeep anymore haha.

It can happen. I had owned two MINIs and went cold on the whole thing almost overnight. Had some heads spinnin' around here fer sure. I basically redefined, broadened, and redirected my fixation with Mini-like motoring through another marque. It's been great!
Anyway, I lurk because I am tracking the upcoming MINI city car. A smaller MINI sounds delish.

**** I thought I would miss my Corvette*****
It just did not happen,
I went from my 1998 Corvette to my 2009 Factory JCW and never regretted it at all. This Mini is the best ,most fun car I have ever driven.
When my warranty is up in two more years I will either get another new JCW or just purchase the seven year warranty from BMW.
I'm hoping they come out with a WRC rally version or a JCW version of the Countryman by then.
My dog Mario likes the idea of the rear windows going down so he can stick his head out while riding in the back seat.
I also like coming out of a store or the mall and having people ask me about my Mini. I have never heard a bad comment from anyone about my car. I never had that with the Corvette. The Vette was just a plain old common car and nobody except another Corvette owner even gave it a look. I never expected the attention my Chili Red/ Black top JCW would get.
I have just reached the 18,200 mile mark with absolutely no problems at all.
I'm sure there are other cars as good or better then the Mini but none of them """ARE"" Mini Coopers. They are just "Want to be's"

There just is not any other car that looks like a Mini, Drives like a Mini and has the charater of a Mini !!!!!

On a lark, I was on various auto manufacturer sites building/specing out cars. Nothing even came close to the MINI for looks/fun/drivability for less than $20k more. Audi, BMW, Lexus, Honda, Toyota... no joy.
My little psycho b!tch from h3ll brings a smile to my face every time I walk up.

I will always have Blue with me, i am never trading him in for any car. I have had so much fun with my mini for 5 years now and summers have been great, but since i've changed to winter tires and driving on the snow is SOOOO much fun.
MINIs are the best overall, no question there.
I got out of MINIs when I started exploring the fuel economy aspects of the car, and then at some point I got absolutely tired of driving in a fast, spirited fashion. It was simply not safe and in good conscience couldn't justify doing that aymore. I opted out. Sadly, this was where the MINI really shone.
Once I slowed down a bit, I found another car that actually was just as much fun in normal driving.....small, light, a tighter turning radius and very quick, direct steering (more like my R50 with holeys). And....while not as up-to-date as my R56, it was every bit as well equipped as my R50. Add to this that while the interior was not as fun as my R56, the dash configuration was simpler, cleaner, almost Zen-like, and in a classic Mini sense...really very Mini. I was hooked and decided to turn the clock back a bit.
MINIs have been very successful, so I am not surprised to see that elements of MINI design thought has filtered down to other cars. It is still not the full package MINIs offer. At the same time, if one carefully examines the classic Mini, there are things MINI has chosen to not emphasize, and sometimes other cars actually do a fine job at capturing this.

Glad to hear that cause I was on my way to the BMW dealer to buy a 1 series and, well, the MINI dealer was right next door so I stopped in there first and , well,,,,,,,,,,,, Proud owner of a 2011 MCS
Just parked my new 2011 in the garage the other day and realized I was going to be spoiled by how much space I freed up, if by nothing else
I've had the car for just a few days, but I'm already thinking this is going to be a much better purchase than my STi. Like someone else said -- my old car looked good on paper, but it just wasn't as fun to drive as I thought it'd be. The MINI isn't exclusive when it comes to this, but it's certainly one of those cars that seems to get it right.

There are A LOT of BMW features on the MINI. The radio is the same, DSC is the same, OBC is the same (at least the menu options are).
As far as performance - its about a tie. I could barely break traction in the 1 series. With the MCS, it's pretty easy - and both were automatics. The BMW was a smoother ride than the MINI.
The biggest difference is the smile you get on your face driving a MINI.

I loved the engine note of my eclipse ($2k of work under the hood) but compared to my MCS it cornered like a whale. That says a lot considering I thought my eclipse was glued to the road and hugged corners...
What did you replace your MINI with.
