JCW head

OK.. we all know the JCW head is said to have port work. Does anyone know just how extensive this is done ? I have been told JCW heads have very minimal port and polish work and then others say different. Anyone know the straight skinny on this ???

We flow tested it when we were building our WMW head, and it didn't flow much more than stock.

The only factoid I have ever heard is the exhaust ports are opened up by an extra 4mm.

Go here and have him do a PnP on a head for you. I want to but don't have the time or money.

What I remember from the original press releases was that the JCW head had been strengthened. That would make sense in order to insure the previous reliability level with the higher boost pressure. However, I don't recall them mentioning in the text that there was any porting/polishing work done.

This is pretty much what I have come up with as well, so basically JCW heads are really nothing special.

For what it's worth, I just had a JCW head that's less than two years old shoot a plug out of cylinder #4, so I'll have to call BS on the strengthening. Bone-stock with only the JCW kit, too...

I've heard the JCW head includes titanium valve springs, lightened valves(?), and is "gas-flowed, ported, and matched", along with being made of aluminum. Again, no word on how much better this is over stock, although I'll be putting the stock head back in tomorrow to replace the blown JCW one so I guess I'll find out soon enough.

That is caused by improper torque on the spark-plug...a MAJOR ISSUE on all Gen1 MINI's, and worse with some brands of plugs....

I see a lot of internet stories here. As Way has said, not much difference. Most of the work was clean up on exhaust ports. Minimal cleanup only.

There is no mystery or mystique with the JCW head. They widened the exhaust port 4mm at the exit side of the port, thats it. No strengthening or titanium anything.
