I've had a Scangauge II in my Xterra for years, and think it's awesome. However, I recently spied the Garmin Ecoroute HD Bluetooth dongle on Amazon for 40% off.

I've been using the Garmin Ecoroute HD with a refurbished Garmin 1490T in my MINI for a few months, and it's pretty darn sweet. The analog gauge display on the Garmin looks great, loads better than the quaint LCD on the Scangauge. And it's pretty easy to unplug the Bluetooth Garmin dongle and use it on another car. I read and reset the codes on a coworker's car at lunch and saved him a quoted $100 trip to the Honda stealership.

The Scangauge I've connected with a wire buried underneath the dashboard panels of the Xterra. I actually bought another data cable, thinking that I'd use the Scangauge with other cars. Both the Scangauge and Garmin Ecoroute HD are great tools, but the Garmin is definitely the better looking, at a cost.

Garmin Ecoroute HD = $90
Refurbished 1490T = $180
Scangauge II = $130

amazing deal for a SG. Something everyone should have in their MINI (or other comparable OBD reader)

Its a great little device. Too bad it looks like it comes from 1985. Doesn't match the MINI at all.

Didn't realize that orders on Amazon would take nearly a month to ship. Thats not really fun.

I agree. Works great but looks dated. I had one down near the toggle switches by the cup holders but didn't like the way it looked by the gauges. Ended up getting an Aeroforce Interceptor (fits in a 52mm gauge pod), which does almost everything the Scangauge 2 did minus some of the trip functions.

That's a great price on the Scangauge 2 though!
