The lights are part of the kit. They are required by WRC rules but are only put on in certain races/ instances otherwise they are not installed.

The first year (2011) is not a competing year for MINI. THey will not be in all races and it will be a shakedown year for the team(s) and driver(s) to get familiar with the car, how it handles, durability, setup, maint, etc.

2012 will be the first year MINI will truly compete in all races. FYI, there is now talk of another MINI being modified for the SWRC (one of the lower classes). Possibly a hatch or a coupe?

A lot of this was possible due to a large round of rule changes in WRC for next year. It will be interesting to see.

 

Were there rules that didnt let Mini race their cars?

 

Any word on whether some "homologation specials" will be available for sale to the public?
