what is it???

Was cutting the windshield out today..Not many can say that ..lol!

Anyways,What is the little black box stuck on the windshield just ahead of the mirror ? I bought this car wrecked so dont know much about these.

Tomorrow the roof gets cut off! Weeeee.May take some pics to show it as it progresses. thanks Jim

I think it's a rain sensor... don't have one on mine, but I know it's an available option, and I've seen one there on a BMW 5-series before.

What are you doing to that poor MINI?!

So what does the rain sensor do? I imagine turn wipers on when wet enough?.

Or maybe close sunroof and windows if parked?

The rain sensing option varies the frequency of the wipers to match the amount of rain - often enough to keep the windshield clear, but not so often that the wiper blades are squeaking/skipping across a dry windshield. The system actually works pretty well.
