Yes it's true...

if you look in the owners manual it says to use premium also. You could probably get by using a lower octane but it if you want your MINI to perform at its best, you should use premium.

I always use 93. I believe 91 is the minimum listed in the manual.

Hey lakersguy!

I always use a Top Tier gasoline (in my case Shell V-Power). You may wish to avail yourself of the info on the following thread...

North American Motoring > 2nd Generation MINIs > Coupe Talk (2007+) > FYI We Must Use Top Tier Gas

Good luck to you and hope this helps!

I only use 91 octane Top Tier fuel.

And if you love your MINI you will too.

Use 91 for sure. My Mini and my friends have STOPPED from not using 91. Make sure to use Shell, Chevron, Costco , but not AMPM this is how my friends car stopped on her.!!!

91 is the highest I can find where I live, and I'd never use anything less. I always use either Chevron or Shell. I'd use racing fuel if I could.

Read the 'PREMIUM FUEL" thread below in this forum, answers the question exhaustively.

Sunocos in my area sell 91 and93. I'm wondering if I can get away with 91 as it's halfway in $ between mid grade and 93, which is priced identical to other 93s like V Power.

It is true, the engineers made it that way. Around here, we don't seem to have 91 anymore. Just 93 or 89, 87...maybe it is just the stations I visit, but 93 isn't much more per gallon, so that's what I use. In the winter, it wouldn't matter as much, but the heat works against you in the octane department, so if the car gets extra hot when you run it (due to weather or driving style) the higher octane makes more sense.
