I have just been told that my clutch went out in my a/c compressor and needs too be replaced. The mechanic told me it would be about $1500 in parts alone. I refuse to pay that and wanted to know if anyone knows about anything about rebuilt/remanufactured compressors. I can find one online a lot cheaper than dealer, but do not want to get stuck with something that will fail a week or two later. Is there a buying guide that one might go with to find a quality part?

 

I had my compressor replaced last summer by a high-end BMW independent shop for about $1200 total including labor. The compressor is available outside of MINI but you cannot get the clutch without the compressor.
