Costs to repaint a MINI?

With all of the soft paint issues I am curious if anyone has done a repaint. Thanks

I think he's referring to the ease of chips and scratches with the craptacular paint MINI gave us.

I know of a few folks that have had their bonnets resprayed but I never asked the cost. THe paint BMW uses is very soft, this is well known in both the MINI and BMW community.

A "decent" repaint will cost you at least $3,000. The higher the cost, the better the job. For a good repaint, you're looking at $5,000. Anything cheaper than $3,000 will be very iffy. Most places won't remove trim or exterior lights which will not allow the paint to cover all areas causing cracks in the paint later down the road. You'll also see your fair share of runs and drips. Most places rush these jobs so they can concentrate on the higher paying customers.

I think repainting your entire car would be kind of wasteful. A ballpark figure for a front end respray would be about $500, more if your hood needs some love too. I personally think that's a better deal than paying an exorbiant price for ClearBra which I don't like the looks of anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I was surprised at how easy the paint chips and scratches. My 13 year old Jeep with 175K miles has about the same amount of paint damage as my three year old MCS. At least good waxes and polishes can help to mask the ugliness somewhat.

at Pebble Beach and Barrett Jackson they call that "patina" -- and pay extra for it!

(at 138k Mini miles, and 55 people years, I have kinda cooled out on visible wear and tear... )

Cheers,

Charlie
