Whew!

So I bought my mini on the 18th of this month from a private party and on Friday the check engine light comes on. Oh crud.

I'm sweating about what it could be. The car needed an alignment bad, so I did that. New tires needed, so I did that AND got rims too. I was at the limit of my spending for a couple of months unless there was an emergency and naturally the check engine light pops up. I was dreading taking it to the mechanic.

I went to Bullet Motorworks out here in California and told them my check engine light was on. The guy at the front desk just stood up and said, "well, let's take a look at it" and walked out there with me with his OBD machine.

First thing he said when he walked up to it was "did you buy this from Andrea?" I was pretty shocked he worked on the car before and remembered it. He said she had taken extremely good care of it, and brought it in to do all her service. Then he plugs in the reader into the OBD port and smiles. "You're gas cap is not on all the way!"

HAHA!

So worrying about how much money I may have to spend on it was no longer a concern. It cost me nothing. The better part is I know she took good care of the car, and got it straight from her mechanic by random chance.

That's good news, although I'm curious.. how is that even possible. It clicks once, and that's it haha . I have a service engine soon light on right now. I'm hoping my repair is as cheap as yours .

Still, congrats on the new car, you'll love it!

When he opened the gas cover the cap was just sitting there. I'm going to assume I just didn't click it due to being distracted by the ride

Dang, I was hoping there was something I was missing , haha. I checked the gas cap a couple days ago with high hopes, but was bummed when it was on snuggly.

I'll be stopping by Advance Auto Parts to at least see if they can read a code it's throwing. I'm praying it's nothing expensive.. I JUST put money into this car...... again . (at least it was for fun parts)

Congrats and happy to hear the upset was for naught. That darn check engine light is equivalent to blue lights in the rearview mirror. Sick stomach and dollar signs flashing.

That is good news, both on it being an easy "no cost" fix and the fact you found the mechanic that took care of the MINI before you bought it.
