What's the Deal with Mini Colours?

I'm pondering the replacement of my 2008 Mellow Yello JustaCooper. I often play around with the "Build your Mini" website working on my dream and my realistic new MINI. A few months ago I "settled" on Oxygen Blue as my color because there no longer was a Mellow Yellow and Interchange Yellow was only available on the convertible. About a month ago Oxygen Blue disappeared and to be honest, the color pallette seemed pretty boring to me. Too many earth tones. Today I decided to play around again and lo and behold, Interchange Yellow is now a choice on the 2010. I'm not a fan, but I figure if I wait a few more months there will be more color changes. Did MINI always do this during the same manufacturing year?

I don't know what they used to do but I know you're not alone in your feelings about the colors. They do seem to be lacking.

They're just trying to make variety and have colors on the market for a short time. That makes it so there aren't so many of the same colors driving around. With MINI, it's all about differentiating. It's cool to know I have the only Jet Black MINI in my area. But, the day BMW decides to loan out Alpine White.......that'd be the heat!!!!! I'd be on board, but alas, that's just wishful thinking. It's a BMW trademark color that'd never be seen on a production MINI.

I like the classic colors.

Mini has a classic look and with the old fashioned colors it's almost like you're driving a car that belongs in an Elvis movie!

To be honest it was the color (02Blue) that sold me on mini.

My second choice was yellow and the new one is pretty cool.
Yellow looks great with a black roof but it might get hot in the Summer without the sunroof.

What options are you going to add or subtract ?

My next mini will have a sunroof , the fancy sound system and the better AC.

I agree with the lack of "fun" color choices. I actually wanted Dark Silver, but I'm a pretty boring person I guess. I can't wait to see some Spice Orange 2011 MINIs!

I rushed to get my order in so I could get O2 Blue. The change to drop O2B and add IY to the tintop Cooper I believe is the only color change for the 2010 model. Any other changes will be for 2011 (meaning you get to wait til December).
