Safe to Use a Chipped Magnetic Plug
Safe to Use a Chipped Magnetic Plug
I have a magnet oil drain plug. I've been very happy with it. It does what it's suppose to do. I'm in the middle of an oil change. I pulled it out to drain the oil and tossed it to the garage floor. In the process the coating on the magnet was chipped a little. I'm curious if anyone knows if it's still safe to use. I'd rather have the magnetic plug in place than the regular stock plug. I can buy another one and have it by my next change. I really didn't know it had a coating on it. I guess I'm just wondering if that coating has some purpose other than making it look shiny and pretty.
The good thing is that the coating is magnetic too. The magnet is very strong, if anymore chips off, I don't have to worry about it getting in my engine. I had a hard enough time removing the piece that chipped off today. The magnet holds on to it. You have to grab it with your fingernails to remove it. Anyway, does anyone know anything about this?
Thank you,
Seth

Nevermind, I went ahead and ordered a new one. I found a stock plug I had laying around. I'll just use that one and swap it out with the new magnetic one when it comes in later this week.
