Speeding ticket. :(

120 in a 100 zone, he knocked it down to 115 which keeps the fine to only $225 as opposed to $400+, only 2 points and no suspension of license.

I totally deserved it, but it still sucks.

Live and learn my friend. A USD $240 speeding ticket 2 years ago (It wasn't terribly bad, but still 60MPH on a 40MPH zone) was the only thing that made me slow down for good.

I have my issues with speed limits and the way police around here enforce speed laws. But guess what? We live here and we have to observe the established traffic laws. If we don't like them, we write to our legislators or simply move to another country.

It is fun saying talking about Canadian speeding tickets in the US.
I tell people I got a ticket for doing 112.

The mounties saw my US plates and sigled me out at a speed trap right after a limit change. I was in the wrong but it does burn that they ticketed me and not one of the cars that were passing me.

Which brings to mind why don't we have 100 mph or higher in the USA. Most of us own cars that or easily capable of 100 mph or more. Most of us drive on tires with "T" ratings or higher. For the most part we are limited to 75 or 80 mph max mainly in the western states and somewhat lower in the more populous east. I would like to drive at 100 or 110 on a regular basis, or at least 90, legally. Here in Utah the posted speed limit on I-80 between Salt Lake and the Nevada state line is 75 mph. Almost everyone drives at least 80, most 85 and a fair number at 90 and a few 95 to 100+. There are no speed related accidents, a few alcohol, equipment failure, or weather related. There is only limited traffic enforcement. It is close to an ideal driving experience. If the speed limit was raised to 85 or 90 it would be ideal.

I know this will never happen, but I can dream and hope to once again find myself on the Autobahn in a suitable vehicle. Ah well.

The average dude's car is not maintained well enough to go that fast.

They would need a lengthy driver's ed that actually taught you how to drive and maintain a car, and raise the driving age to 18 or 19 before they could ever instate a 100mph speed limit.

The average American dude is not capable of the lane discipline to allow these limits. It's not just about barriers to entry, but also about a culture that values skilled driving. Germans have always been **** about driving.

America invented cup holders, texting, and dashboard entertainment. And US cops look the other way, unless they can nail you for something as obvious as speeding. It's screwed up. It's about revenue. And it's American.

Face it - so long as driving is seen as a right and not a privilege, you aren't going to get the German model of driving discipline.

I wouldn't want a 100mph speed limit anywhere in the USA. I enjoyed the brief "reasonable and prudent" era of Montana speed limits in 1995. Nice idea, but idiot population made it dangerous. Americans are too stupid and preoccupied to deserve unbridled freedom on the roads.

The OP got a $225 (CAD) ticket for doing ~75mph in a ~60mph zone. Is it just me, or does that seem crazy! I don't even think all my tickets combined come to that.

The only ticket I got lately was here on NAM from a moderator while I was speaking about how fast I was going one time. It cost me 25 NAM points. Don't talk about speed....it isn't worth it.

'Excessive Speed' - If you discuss getting a ticket, not a big deal. If you discuss a street race, getting a ticket for speeding beyond the normal driving speeds (you know no one does 60 in a 60, except maybe grandma,) that's when the infractions start.

I'm with Quinoa on the speed limit thing. Americans are way to stupid to handle higher limits. I just drove 500 miles yesterday and I am just starting to relax now. Why don't people understand that 20 cars lined up behind you is not a parade that you should call your friends about! Our interstates look more like a graveyard than highway with all the shrines along the sides. Most of which are along straight parts of the highway??????????

You should come to Kansas. I got a ticket for 49 in a 40 and it was $105. My buddy got a ticket for 54 -40 and it shot to $275.

As far as higher speed limits. I dont think we're ready. I still answer my phone, use the radio, ect while driving. I can and have (legally) drove at over 100mph on the highway, but I wasnt playing with the radio, phone, whatever.

However, I've never almost been killed by someone speeding on the highway. I have almost been killed SEVERAL times by some *** clown doing 5, 10, or even as far as 20 UNDER the speed limit. Slower traffic on all roads is what causes a problem.

I am not sure where you guys live, but where I am living right now, people can barely handle 45 MPH. I strongly doubt many people can handle 100MPH. It is also shocking how bad some people are at maintaining their cars. I just moved down to Georgia from Ontario, Canada, and wow ... I thought Quebec drivers were bad drivers ... but drivers here are worse.

Radar detectors are sadly illegal in nova scotia. Although the Bel STi can be installed in stealth mode, if they suspect it, they can search your car and take it. I have friends who have had their detectors backed over by RCMP cruisers.
