I went int the dealership REALLY wanting a JCW. I wanted a JCW in the worst way ever since I found out that they existed.

I knew I couldn't afford it, at least I thought I knew I couldn't afford it... All of the JCW's I saw before I got mine were like $40,000 plus.

Well, all of the S's the dealer found with the options I wanted came to $27,000+ Then I found out that a JCW with no options was $29,000 and change!

All of the options I wanted were standard on the JCW anyway. The Dealership found me a Mellow Yellow with black roof, black wheels (just what I wanted). The only options were bluetooth and multi function wheel for just over $30,000. I jumped at it and have had a smile on my face ever since!

It all depends on what you want. I don't think you can go wrong as long as you know what you want.

For R56s, the sports suspension is an option on both, the standard suspension is a big more sporty on the S. You can get the sports package for the Justa, it evens out most of the differences (suspension, seats etc), once you do that the diffference is about $2000.

i started out around 23-24 MPG when I first got my S. Now I get around 21. I guess I beat the car around too much.

I'm still breaking my '10 MCS in so I don't know what I will be getting. As per my computer, which probably reads about a gallon and a half better, I'm getting 36. I would regularly get 42 with my Cooper Clubman. 21 to 24 seems mightly low, minirooferS.

K. Looking to pick up a 2004 Cooper S (IB/W) 6speed.
Has 2tone cloth heated seats, sunroof, DSC, multi-steeringwheel, foglamps, and xenons. Also, new Zeon (nonRF) Tires (205/45/17)

Has 39k miles for $14,650. Sound like a good deal?

i bought a cooper because i liked the look of it with the custom bits, and the insurance and price were less than an S - my friend has an S and it's nice but i'm not sure i'd use the extra power as i'm just commuting in traffic mainly, but the cooper definately has a bit of a kick when you need it!

My wife has an S and I'm going to buy a new base model to use as my daily driver.

I have a 90 mile RT commute over rough roads so I like the ride on the 15" wheels better. I also like the responsiveness of the NA engine and it feels lighter and more tossable to me. I don't have any plans to track or autocross the car so the base cooper is perfect for my needs.

I also have an old sportscar in my garage if i ever crave more power.

Update from above on my mileage. If I drive for fuel mileage, I'm getting 42 on the computer. That is probably closer to 40 real mpg. I see others getting low 20's in their Cooper S so they obviously aren't driving for best fuel mileage. I was getting similar in my '08 Cooper. I'm having wayyyyyyyyyy more fun in my Cooper S than in my last two Coopers combined. Get an S if you can!

DS

Definitely S.

While my BMW was in the shop they loaned us a standard Cooper. It was nice, but just couldn't seem to get out of the way or make the way when it came time.

Still we liked all the other aspects of the car.

So we test drove an S and here we are. The S just has that extra growl and mated with the sport pack and other niceties you can't go wrong.

Next week I'm looking at the JCW for myself.

I would. I mean, I think I would be perfectly content with performance if I got the remus exhaust I've book looking at and a RMW tune - already have the DDM intake.

I would do a camshaft too but...I just don't feel like worrying about my midlands grendading on me.

That and the car has 83k miles on it already. Not that it probably couldn't reach 160k easy but still.

I hate selling it over a stupid tranny. I did reach the conclusion that I could just save ~$100 a month over the next 2 years for when/if it does go, I'd have the money for it. But then I realized, if I'm taking that money away anyway, might as well use it on a car payment for a car with half the miles, more performance, and more features.
However, it would probably worth it to keep the Justa running. Love the throaty sound of 'em. But, also love the S/C whine.

I decided on my Justacooper after test driving both and thinking the justa was good enough for the price. I love the car and don't regret it at all (saved me a BUNCH of cash).

But the next Mini I buy (2012 I'm thinking) will be an S. Definitely.

The Justa is deffinately enough. I dunno if it's just me but I think the Justa feels more balanced and handles cornering better.. Could be that I'm just used to it.
I know the S will be more fun in the long run.

A little off topic but how did you do your custom signature jokell?

For the longest time I thought i was going to get a justa. And I was ok with it...

Then i went for a test drive. And as many say... IF YOU DONT THINK YOU WANT AN S - DONT TEST DRIVE ONE. Well that was my mistake. Test drove one and fell in love. When we worked out the monthly payments it turned out that it was only about $20 more/month.

Couldn't be more happy.

That's pretty much my story right there! Hopefully the contract I'll negotiate for a Cooper S will end up being only $20 more/month as well - but I doubt it!

Take it from someone whos has owned both. Get the Cooper S. Even if you dont drive spiritedly. Its worth it. The acceleration, the center mount exhaust, the bonnet scoop, ect. All make it worth it. Also, you can never go wrong with a Forced inducted engine!

Of those three reasons you gave, only one should really matter. Center mount exhaust? Really would you think less of the S if it was mounted like the justa? Bonnet scoop is just a personal preference, but I prefer the hood from the Cooper D.

I wouldn't base my purchase off either of those decisions. You're talking many thousands of dollars for a couple of minor cosmetic changes.

Yes. It would look very cheap and lame if it had boring exhaust pipes. I personally hate it when some sporty American cars have the same exhausts as like a cavalier when there are slow hondas with sportier stock exhausts.

Plus the S models have a sportier exhaust tone. The r53's burble and pop and the r56's have a nice throaty tone when you rev them.
