What do you regret?
Nice thread.
I'm not overly thrilled with the armrest - it tends to get in the way a lot, and isn't exactly as functional as it looks.
Another thing is i'm not overly thrilled with the embedded Nav - I like the idea I can SEE my iPod, and SEE the maps...but I'm not happy with the user-friendliness (or lack thereof) of the program itself, plus the fact it takes a DVD ($200 a pop!) that ought to be replaced (for updated maps) every 3-5 years. A friend just bought a brand new BMW SUV (X3 or 5? can't remember which) with the embedded nav, but hers is USB/hard drive capable, and can be updated with a computer instead of a DVD.
That's a much better idea.
But other than that...the only other thing I regret is not something I could/could not have gotten... I regret selling my '04 MCS (identical to my '07 MCS) when hubby told me I had too many cars!!!! WHATever. I'm a collector, whadddaya expect????

I spent weeks finalizing my build, but still missed the mark slightly. Should have opted for LSD & Sirius. I don't like Sirius for music due to the incredibly low bitrates and accompanying tinny sound, but it's great for other stuff, and is a good companion on long drives. Very glad I paid the painful price for nav. It makes the dash look 10000x better IMHO, integrates very nicely with the radio, bluetooth & iPod, and even the nav itself isn't bad for factory stuff.
If anyone's reading this who hasn't ordered yet.. pay attention to those regretting skipping xenons. They're even a good value at only $500 to upgrade, unlike most of the rest of our options, most of which are hideously overpriced. Don't even get me started about $2k for lounge leather.. the leather is of incredibly poor quality, and it includes NOTHING else like a leather shift & e-brake boots, which they could surely throw in for such a heavy price.

I got my Cooper as basic as possible -- Midnight Black Metallic is the only option.
I wish I had gotten:
- Cold Weather Package, although there have really only been a few days this miserable winter where it's had been critical (I just took my other car on those days).
- LSD. I just want both wheels pulling.
- The iPod interface. But I get along just fine with my iPod laying under the handbrake lever.
I'm pleased with it's simplicity, even though it is pretty well equipped compared to my better-half's '06. She had to get a bunch of options to have a MINI as well-equipped as my base 2010.

Wish I had: Convenience package (especially the "keyless" entry/start, auto wipers), more carbon fiber JCW interior accessories (but so over priced, I couldn't do it!)
Couldn't live without: Cold weather package...heated seats are a must, Sunroof (just makes the car feel bigger, plus my son loves having his own in the back!)
Nothing I regret.

My only regret was not getting heated seats.. I had no idea how nice they were.. Got aftermarket seat heaters installed this year at an auto interior place and I am thrilled..
I regret not getting the automatic wipers, but I did buy off the lot at a steep discount so I'm not complaining. It would be nice if the standard intermittent function was adjustable like every other car I've ever had, or at least speed sensitive (yes I know it slows down significantly at a stop, but it's just those 2 speeds, moving or at a stop). With all the over integrated electronics in the car, you think they could have the intermittent setting go faster at 65 mph than at 5 mph.

The biggest thing I regret not having and this is my fault for buying used is the cruise control. I hate having to drive long distances without it. When I came back from Pcola last nite it was causing my knee to hurt. I will be going to buy that Monday when parts open up and retrofit it in.

On the 2010 the intermittent wipers are located on the end of the wiper control lever. Just push the button in. It's not labeled as such. But the drivers manual shows how to use it.
Wish I had got leather instead of leatherette (or the cloth/leather combo if I had ordered a Lightening Blue like Arty) and I think the Comfort Access would be pretty cool but not really needed. And I'd get a different dash/color line combo. Don't like the checkers much...
No regrets on my car. It has basically every option minus the nav and I think all dealer installed options. (daytime lights, rain sensing wipers, sunroof and windows opening from the key, etc) I didn't get it at a dealer though.
The only regret I can think of was not coming to my mini dealer earlier when they had a dark blue 2006 JCW for only $20k. It was sold when I got there and it was pretty upsetting.

The only thing I added was the factory alarm and the armrest.
The armrest is pretty lame but I don't regret getting it. I don't miss any of the stuff that I didn't get - particularly the sunroof (bad experience on my last car with sunroof - will never get one again).

I bought mine used and didn't know a thing about it when I got it, it was the driving experience that sold me on it. Since then, I've been upgrading it with the addition of the armrest, ipod adapter, driving lights and the like. The things I really wish it had are leather, the cloth gets dirty too easily, and the nav system, not because I need to get directions but I think it would have made my iPhone so much easier to use with the car.
I ordered my S back in early 02 with every option available with the exception of the rear back up proximity alarm. Had I know where the car was going to end up mod wise I would have deleted a few things . As a side note the total came to $ 26,251 and that was with NAV and the extra charge for the Dark Silver paint. Prices for a fully loaded Mini sure have climbed a bit .
1/ Sunroof - 55 lbs in the worst possible place balance wise and I never open it anyway.
2/ Heated leather seats / cold weather package. They were nice but don't hold you in place at all. They are in storage .
3/ 17" wheels . I have 3 sets of wheels for the car and they are not on the list . Gave those away years ago.
4/ DSC . Its been disabled for years . If I drove the car as a daily or in inclement weather I would most likely have kept it .

I regret getting fleeced for $2,000 for the lounge leather option. What a ripoff on an already price-inflated options list. The leather itself is the worst quality leather I've ever had in any car I've owned. Upon close examination it looks fake, and is extremely thin. No leather smell at all either. And, the cheap asses don't even throw in anything else for that $2k, such as the (available as accessories) leather shift and handbrake boots. No, after ponying up, I'm still stuck with the crappy vinyl stuff for those 2 items. Ridiculous.
The only thing I regret getting was the arm rest. I'm only 5'4" and I can't possibly rest my arm on it. I'm hoping my passenger will enjoy it on long rides, but it is useless to me and the top is always opening up. Oh well.
Otherwise I'm pleased with all my choices. I'm glad I got a manual even though I haven't driven one in 17 years and live in a VERY high traffic area. I shift contantly, but I enjoy it. I like the strut brace even though I'm not sure it will actually make a differnce in the long run, but it looks cool and I enjoy polishing it *grin*. I got the sport package, mostly for the bigger tires, I didn't want the "spoiler" but couldn't really get it without. I also love the rooster red color line inside, it really perks up the interior!
I wish you could get an S without the hood scoop. I like the look of the Cooper hood better, but wouldn't mind the extra power. They told me the scoop is purely cosmetic, but they can't make it without one. *sigh*.
Overall I LOVE my MINI, my first new car ever (I'll be 40 this year) and I gave lots of thought to all her bits. I'm glad I got the rear fog lamp and fun Union Jack roof graphic too!

I don't regret getting anything on my Cricket nor do I miss getting the Nav cause I just bought a Garmin for the portability. I LOVE my car - it's 2 yrs old now & still looks brand new cause I keep her that way
The thing I regret is selling my mini. Until I get in the Gti and feel the power. lol One option I wish I wouldnt have gotten on the mini was the Sunroof. If you like to track or auto-x your mini its just added weight. Other then that I wish I would have had Chrono Pack.
