Best Radar Detector?

I'm looking around for a radar detector but theres all mixed reviews on many of them, i dont know what to believe. Do any of you have one, and what do you think is the best? I saw many for under $100, i would like one of those but i dont know if theyre any good.

I like my 10 year old "BEL"

I have a Bel detecter that is over ten years old. It works on AA batteries so I don't have to fool with wires. It still picks up the radar weather it is coming from the front or a police car is in back of me. It clicks a goofy sound if a police car is close by without their radar turned on.
If I ever need to replace this thing I would probably get another battery powered Bel.

PS: this Bel also has a "Stealth Function" that keeps a police car from knowing if you even have a detector turned on in your car.

My choice is a "Valentine One"

I know they are alittle high in cost but it has saved me many times.

It has arrows that tells you which direction the signal is coming from, and it also tells you how many signals.

Check it out: www.v1pop.com 1-800-331-3030

It is surprising that there haven't been numerous threads on this very topic already. Oh wait, there have been!

Although you will see people dismissing the Valentine One, it is by far the best for so many reasons. Those reasons are covered elsewhere, so I won't list them here. Is the upfront cost high? Yes. But if it ends up just saving you from one ticket that another radar detector wouldn't have, it has paid for itself.

depends on the term best... best range? no false alerts? arrows? functions? cost? size?

over all i went with the 9500xi becuase i hated the false alerts teh v1 gave me ALLL the time... i hated teh v1 with such a passion in a way. but it was a fantastic radar detector just not one i would want in my car.

by false alerts i mean yes it was detectiong radar but not the kind i would be conserned with.

I stopped using one years ago. If I was going to buy one today I would buy the best available. $399 for a V1 seems like a lot, but if it saves you a ticket or two it's paid for itself.

Yeah, I have the V1 hardwired in my car and I just HATE how it tells me the areas where there are the "false alerts" (which are not really false at all) that everybody knows about that the cops would NEVER think to setup there because people ignore the "false alerts." How horrible of them to tell me that an area that usually has 1 alert is suddenly showing me 3 or 4 (indicating a speed trap, most likely) when the inferior detectors would allow me to just breeze by having "locked out" any signal from there since it is a "known false." Why would anyone be concerned about the police running radar where a false alert might come from?

Anyhow, I hope your $35 investment pays off. Good luck.

I have a 9500i, love it...had a 8400...was great!!
I will warn you...you get exactly what you pay for with radar detectors...you have to pay to play. With instant on, and laser, a good thing to have is a CB...
A $100 or even a $200 radar detector will do little else than tell you you have been caught...I would save up, and get something good.

In regards to the V1, everybody knows that you can disable the x band, which is the one that garage door openers, automatic doors, microwave towers...use? Most Law enforcement uses k & ka now.

The cheap detectors give you enough warning so you can already have your window down when the officer comes to get your license and registration!

V1 hands down. Also you can change the sensitivity. I have mine set on "L" mode. Its uses more "Logic" when determining what contacts and signal strength to show you.

And Valentine will make sure your detector is never obsolete because of the Continuous Improvement plan and upgrade of your current unit.

We are going to mount my V1 to the burglar alarm cover on the ceiling. Then I will use the remote display and remote audio unit next to my steering wheel. Should come out real stealthy

9500xi is 35 bucks?!?!? **** i got ripped... lets try again.... when my 9500xi doent make a noise for a known false k band going past your local shopping center but does go off for that KA band because the cop is hiding behind the local dunkin doughnuts that makes me happy... when going by there with my v1 and it starts making noise i think its jsut a false till i realize its KA...

i would look into the 9500xi untill yuo start passing judgement... its not like it blocks out all teh radar when it goes by a known false... it takes that one frequencey that i can 100% promise you a cop is not using and it blocks it. it needs to see that frequency 3 times int he exact same spot for it to know its a false...

so yes i will take my "$35" investment and know it pays off..... i have owned 2 v1's 3 escorts and 2 bel's

the 9500xi wins hands down for the area i live in... the v1 wins hands down in the country roads.

The $35 comment was regarding what the OP paid for the Whistler he went with.

The 9500i, and the 9500ix is closer to $400-500. Like the v1 they are pricey...but have a lot of capability. The current version of software or harware upgrade status is the differeance in these units from being pretty good or great. How is it possible that you have owned more than one v1....it is always cheaper to upgrade it then replace it...as long as you are the regerstered owner, and it has not been flagged as stolen.

Valentine 1, period.

It is the one and only, all others strive to imitate it.
