Should I get an extended warranty??....

I've been thinking that I might go ahead and spend the money and extend the warranty on my '06 JCW Cabriolet. It's got every possible JCW option on it. One of the things I've heard is that the clutch can be problematic. So, I have these questions:

Is the problem one of wear? (In which case I wouldn't expect the warranty to cover it?)

Or is the problem of mechanical failure and the warranty would cover it?

How do the clutches usually fail? And on the average, at how many miles?

Also, I hear that sometimes the superchargers fail. Is this a problem with the JCW cars? I understand that the JCW supercharger is an improved unit. Is this true?

Any other considerations or possible future mechanical problems that might make me want to extend the warranty? Like top failures? Other?

Thanks for all your feedback.

Cheers!

every extended warranty Ive seen offered thru MINI dealers exclude clutches, dmf's and any related wear items. AMOF, Ive never seen a clutch covered in any extended warranty. so I think you are SOL there. The Luk clutches are pretty spotty, reliability-wise: u either get a good one or a bad one. However, there are better built and more reliable aftermarket clutches out there when the LuK oem one expires on ya, so U can go that route.

Check with your dealer and see what they offer, because there will be no doubts as to what will be covered. Do not buy into those TV ads; most are BS, and all are brokers, including US Fidelis, which has been sued by BMW for false advertising and misleading claims. IOW, if U do this, do it thru your dealer.

Extended Maintenance includes one clutch

I just purchased a 2007 R52 JCW that was Mini-Next certified and included a 100K maintenance package. The Mini-Next warranty does not include clutches, but the 100K extended maintenance does.
