Obsessed with buying a Mini ..
For the last couple of months I've been obsessing over buying a Mini S. I spend hours looking at different web sites, Ebay, Auto Trader, this one, etc fantasizing about this Mini or that Mini. Have test driven a few at local Mini dealers. I haven't pulled the trigger (yet) but it almost seems inevitable. I don't really "need" a Mini but I really "want" one.Anyone else go through something similar. How did it turn out?

I have been back and forth on one. The problem is that I have a reliable DD that I owe money on right now and I am not inclined to sell at the moment. I should have initially went with my gut and took the Mini more seriously when I was purchasing a year or so ago but....oh well. Go for it...
This is how I was as well.
The thing is you sound like a mini person. Mini people look at other cars and say "Oh yeah. Mmm hmm. Nice... But it's not a mini."
I obsessed for quite some time, thought it would die out, but it never did. So what did I do? I went out and bought one.
And I'm still obsessed.

I didn't "need" one...my old car worked just fine. But I saw one, thought it looked fun, went in for a test drive and came away $1000 lighter after putting down the deposit.
Go for it!

When I had my old 475whp '98 Eclipse, I used to drive by this 03' chili red mini for sale by my house every day. One day I stopped and took it for a test drive, then two weeks later the Eclipse was gone and a MINI was in my driveway
. I've driven some really nice or fast cars, and none were as fun to drive as a MINI. I say defffffinately buy one

my sister is that way right now... i didnt have enough time to obsess over buying, the thought came to my mind like a week before i bought mine...randomly saw it at a dealer, test drove, and purchased.
I obsessed over Minis for... probably two or three years. I had had my old car for just shy of a decade from brand new. It got me through two years of high school, 6 years of college, and a year after that. The car was loud, a little beat up, a few things didn't work, but other than that it was fine, decent transportation. The only thing holding me back was that I couldn't afford a new Mini, nor to lease one, nor could I afford anything that was on the dealer lots, because I had no money for a down payment. But I wanted one so bad that it hurt.
Then I got rear ended in my old car, and I took the repair money, sold the car without fixing it, and decided that this was it, and I had to have a Mini NOW. I looked around and actually found the cheapest one I could from a private owner with only 45,000 miles on it at the time (now have over 102,000) and bought it. Never regretted it one tiny bit. Had it three years now, and I don't forsee myself selling it anytime soon.
I understand your pain, I really do.

And the worst part is, the mini wants you too. No mini wants to sit around in a lot. They belong on the twisties!
And besides, what did you think the NAMily was gonna say? "no dont do it?". Fact is, you asked us because you already knew the answer.

I am in the exact same boat as you... got the bug about a year ago, and am finally in a financial position to get the MINI I want (MB JCW).
I can't tell you how many different configurations I've made online.
I have considered so many other vehicles in the price range but still come back to the MINI every time.
As soon as another good financing deal comes around (hopefully during auto show season) I'm sure the only answer I'll come up with is
to finally joining the MINI Owner's Club.
Best of luck in making a choice/pulling the trigger!

I'm in same position - been wanting one for a looong time, trying to figure out when. I'm set on a JCW. But then ahead, sometimes I say go completely crazy, and get a used Exige S. Is there any commonality between Lotus and Mini heads? They're both British, small cars with great handling, seems like they might appeal to similar people.
Mini obviously far more practical than an Exige, but also a lot more sane - which can be a plus or a minus.
