insurance rates - good news!

Finally remembered to call my agent today and get my new MCS (delivered 12/2) officially on my policy with State Farm.

My other car is an '07 BMW Z4M Coupe, a 330 hp car that is relatively expensive to insure. For full coverage I have been paying exactly $1200/yr. That's with a discount because of also carrying homeowner's insurance with them, + a 10-yr accident-free discount. Not a horrible rate, given that I live in metro Phoenix, not an inexpensive area for insurance.

Adding the new car to my policy is costing me $650/yr for full coverage. Dropping the Z4M to being a 2nd vehicle lowers its rate to $790/yr. So, the net change is + $240/yr to cover both cars - that's freaking awesome!

My agent tells me that the MCS is a relatively inexpensive car to insure in State Farm's rating system. Are the rest of you hearing similar and paying reasonable rates, or are some of you getting hammered by other companies? If the latter, you might want to shop State Farm. I've been with them since '85 and have always had EXCELLENT service.

I have been getting hammered. I am currently paying about 1800 a year for my nissan versa and my mcs. I just changed to a new insurance company. That did save a little bit but not nearly as much as I was hoping! 31 Clean driving record and living in California.

I pay $1600 a year for full coverage on only my MINI but I'm 22, male, have 2 accidents (both weren't my fault tho, I was rear ended twice at stop lights in my old Acura), and live in NJ which has reciculously high auto insurance rates.

not to sound ranty, rude or anything but a few min. of soap box. (i don't claim to be an expert but just speaking to friends frankly)

as an independent insurance agent i'll say there's a lot that goes into rates. any more. credit, age, sex, car, location, driving history, discounts, coverage's and deductibles and more go into the rating system. point being that to just compare numbers is dangerous and kinda pointless because the same car could be much more or less to insure because of a credit score. before you say it, i'm the first to say, it's bullocks! but it's what's going on with the industry.
as for "discounts" most companies....non-advertising, mass market companies don't spell out a page of "discounts" to make the insured feel good. it's built in the rate. not to say there's anything wrong with state farm or whoever but i regularly am able to provide identical coverage as similar and often better rates. independents don't have to pay for national air time...

kinda like if mini priced the car up 5k and then discounted for you walking in the door, test driving, and smiling.

i'd encourage people to shop around or review their policies every once in a while just to make sure things are in order.

all of that is kinda the mantra of our agency that's been kicking for 60+ years

You guys have it lucky, I'm living in Brooklyn, and I won't even tell you how much I pay. It's utterly disgusting. Then again, with all the bad drivers in the NYC area, I can see why it's high.

I think we pay about 1300 I forgot it went down the went up.
That's for 3 cars, with USAA. My complaint is that the CRX is
as much as my other cars. I've only been putting 2k miles per year
on it.
